Torbräu Stay Overview
I stayed at Torbräu in mid-January 2026, late March 2026, and early May 2026. The hotel is directly beside Isartor and is well placed for exploring Munich’s Old Town. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, Hofbräuhaus, and the Deutsches Museum are all within walking distance, while Isartor S-Bahn station provides convenient airport access. Room quality varied considerably. The Junior Suite and renovated Superior rooms were spacious and comfortable, while several standard doubles and single rooms were small and dated. Cleanliness was generally good, although one room had a slow shower drain and another had water that repeatedly changed temperature. Breakfast included bread, cheese, ham, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, and hot dishes. The breakfast employees were especially attentive. Most front-desk employees were helpful, although a taxi request and directions from the station were handled poorly on separate occasions. The standard double at 295 euros per night felt expensive for its size, and the room costing 650 euros offered poor value. I would stay again for the location, but I would choose a renovated Superior room or Junior Suite.

Standard Double in January 2026
In mid-January 2026, I paid 295 euros for one night in a standard double room with breakfast. I booked online and paid by credit card at checkout. The room was clean and quiet at night, but it was tight for two people with large suitcases. Once one suitcase was open, very little space remained between the bed, desk, and wall. Breakfast and the regular minibar were included, but the room was not inexpensive for its size.
Junior Suite in March 2026
In late March 2026, I stayed for two nights in a Junior Suite and paid a total of 750 euros by card. The suite cost about 80 euros more per night than the standard double, but it included a separate sitting area, a larger bathroom, and enough floor space for two open suitcases. For a stay of several nights or a trip with a lot of luggage, I recommend the Junior Suite over the smallest double room.
Expensive Room in May 2026
In early May 2026, I paid 650 euros for one night. The full amount was charged to my credit card when I made the reservation, and the rate was non-refundable. The room did not justify the price. The shower was extremely narrow, the drain was slow, and several bathroom corners were not properly cleaned. The carpet and some furniture were also old. At that price, it is worth contacting the hotel to confirm that the room has been renovated.
Minibar and Additional Charges
The regular minibar contained water, sparkling water, juice, beer, and small snacks at no additional charge. Nespresso capsules and tea were also included. The minibar was replenished after housekeeping on some days. Extra bottled water was not always complimentary. Hotel parking was charged separately at 28 euros per day and appeared on the final bill.
Torbräu Check-in and Check-out
Arrival and Passport Check
The receptionist checked my passport and reservation name. On quiet days, check-in took about five minutes. During a busier stay, I waited around 15 minutes because two groups were ahead of me. In January, the room was ready at approximately noon, which was extremely helpful after an overnight journey.
Room Key and Luggage
Some rooms used a traditional key instead of a key card. The key was left at reception when going out and collected again on return. A short staircase separates reception from the elevator, but staff helped carry large suitcases. Luggage storage was available before check-in and after checkout without an extra charge.
11 a.m. Checkout
The standard checkout time was 11 a.m. An additional hour required an extra fee, so I left at the scheduled time. The receptionist confirmed the room number, parking, and any other paid items before processing the card. There were no unexpected charges. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel and spend more time near Marienplatz before going to the airport.
Torbräu Room Types
Single Room
The single room was adequate for one night but too small for a longer visit. The bed was close to the wall, and a large suitcase quickly blocked access to the desk or entrance. A wardrobe, refrigerator, coffee machine, and compact workspace were provided. For an extended business trip, I would book a double room for single occupancy.
Standard Double Room
Standard double rooms differed significantly. One renovated room had modern flooring, brighter furniture, and a newer bathroom. Another had old carpet, dated tiles, and lightly rusted metal fittings. Most double beds consisted of two single mattresses pushed together. In some rooms, the mattresses were fixed inside one shared frame and could not be separated.
Superior Room
Superior rooms provided more space around the bed and a larger desk. Two suitcases could remain open without blocking the bathroom or entrance. Power outlets were located near the bed and desk, although older rooms had fewer of them. Not every Superior room had been renovated, so requesting an updated room is worthwhile.
Junior Suite and Suite
The Junior Suite had a separate sitting area and a much larger bathroom. One person could sleep while the other used the sofa area, packed luggage, or made coffee. Depending on the room, the bathroom included twin sinks, a bathtub, and a large shower. Street-facing suites sometimes had views of church towers, while courtyard rooms were quieter but offered little scenery.
Torbräu Cleanliness·Beds·Temperature
Mattresses and Bedding
Mattresses in renovated rooms and the Junior Suite were medium-firm and supportive. The linens were soft, clean, and free of stains. Winter duvets were warm enough, although they felt too heavy during spring. A lighter sheet was provided on request. An older room had a mattress that had started to sag in the center, and the low, soft pillows left my neck uncomfortable. Extra pillows were available.
Housekeeping and Room Odor
Floors, desks, beds, and bathroom sinks were clean during most stays. Housekeeping made the beds, emptied waste bins, and replaced cups, towels, and toiletries each day. One older room developed a musty smell when the air conditioner was running. There was no visible mold, but the unit needed a filter check. Another room had small stains on the curtain.
Air Conditioning
Air conditioning worked well in most rooms. Renovated units were relatively quiet and cooled the room quickly. One Superior room remained warmer than expected, and the front desk supplied a fan. An older unit was loud at night. Turning it off caused the room to heat up quickly.
Heating and Windows
One winter room remained excessively warm even after the heating was turned off, so I had to open the window. Temperature control worked correctly in another room. Several windows could be opened fully, and the blackout curtains blocked light well. Street noise was noticeable with the window open but dropped considerably once it was closed.
Torbräu Noise and Elevator
Street and Internal Noise
Tal is busy during the day, but traffic noise was not a major problem with the windows closed. Courtyard rooms had almost no outside noise. Internal soundproofing was less consistent. Normal conversations from the next room, footsteps from above, and doors closing in the hallway were audible during some stays. After one particularly noisy night, the front desk moved me to a larger and quieter room without making the process difficult.
Elevator and Stairs
The elevator was small and slow. Two adults with suitcases filled it completely. Waiting times increased during breakfast and checkout hours. A short set of stairs separates reception from the elevator, and the elevator itself is tight for a wheelchair. Travelers using a stroller or mobility aid should confirm access before booking.
Torbräu Bathroom·Shower·Amenities
Bathroom Size and Counter Space
The Junior Suite bathroom was spacious and had plenty of counter space. Depending on the room, it included twin sinks, a bathtub, and a large shower. Several standard-room bathrooms were extremely small. Turning inside the shower was difficult, and there was little room around the sink for toiletries.
Water Pressure and Hot Water
Renovated rooms had strong water pressure and fast hot water. In an older room, the pressure was weak and the temperature shifted from hot to cold approximately every 30 seconds. During another stay, the water remained lukewarm. I reported the issue at checkout but did not receive a discount. One shower also drained so slowly that water remained on the floor after use. I recommend testing the shower before fully unpacking.
Towels and In-room Amenities
Towels were clean, reasonably thick, and replaced daily. Shampoo, shower gel, and soap were replenished during housekeeping. The Junior Suite included bathrobes and slippers. A Nespresso machine, tea, and the complimentary minibar were also available, making it easy to have coffee or a drink in the room.
Torbräu Breakfast
Price and Menu
Breakfast was included with the rates I booked. When purchased separately, it cost 25 euros per person, including hot drinks. The buffet included croissants, several breads, eggs, cheese, ham, sausage, yogurt, preserves, fruit, and hot dishes. Coffee was strong, and soy lattes were available.
Food Quality and Replenishment
Bread and cheese were fresh, while eggs and sausage were kept warm. Empty serving trays were replaced quickly, so long waits were uncommon. On some mornings, the fruit and cereal selection was limited. For a 25-euro breakfast, the buffet occasionally felt smaller than expected. During other stays, the selection was considerably better.
Seating and Breakfast Staff
There were plenty of empty tables before 8 a.m. Later in the morning, both the buffet and seating area became crowded. Breakfast employees remembered drink orders and asked about them the following morning. Highchairs were prepared quickly for families. Even during busy periods, the service remained friendly and attentive.
Torbräu Staff Service
Front Desk
Most front-desk employees were professional and helpful. They assisted with train information, restaurant suggestions, extra pillows, and a portable fan. The early noon check-in and the easy room change after a noisy night were particularly helpful.
Disappointing Interactions
During a parade, I asked for help finding a taxi but received very little assistance from one employee. On another occasion, telephone directions from Isartor consisted mainly of a compass direction and were not useful for a visitor unfamiliar with the area. One employee also took time to acknowledge me because she was looking at her phone. Service quality depended somewhat on the individual staff member.
Breakfast and Housekeeping Teams
The breakfast team handled drinks, tables, and food replenishment efficiently. Housekeeping made the beds, cleaned the room, and replaced towels and toiletries every day. After departure, the hotel also helped return a personal item that had been left behind. The process took some time, but communication was polite and reliable.
Torbräu Parking and Transportation
Private Hotel Parking
A private outdoor parking area is located behind the hotel. The charge was 28 euros per day. Parking directly beside an Old Town hotel was convenient, but the total became expensive over several nights. Spaces were limited, so reserving one before arrival is recommended. The easiest option was to unload luggage at the front entrance before moving the car to the parking area.
Car or Public Transportation
Driving through central Munich involved narrow streets and one-way sections. A car can be useful for frequent day trips outside Munich, but it is unnecessary for an Old Town visit. Isartor station is close to the hotel, and most major sights are within walking distance. Paying 28 euros per day to leave the car parked was difficult to justify during a city-focused trip.
Torbräu Advantages·Disadvantages·Overall Opinion
Advantages
Location is the hotel’s strongest advantage. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, Hofbräuhaus, shops, and restaurants are all within walking distance. Cleanliness, the complimentary minibar, and breakfast service were also positive. Renovated Superior rooms and Junior Suites offered comfortable beds, useful space, and pleasant bathrooms.
Disadvantages
Room quality varied widely. Some bathrooms were modern and spacious, while others were old and extremely narrow. Water pressure, hot water, air-conditioning noise, and soundproofing were also inconsistent. The small elevator and stairs near reception are difficult for guests with limited mobility. The 295-euro standard double was not inexpensive, and the 650-euro room offered particularly poor value.
Would I Stay Again?
I would stay at Torbräu again because of its location. I would not choose the smallest single room or the cheapest standard double again. For another visit, I recommend a renovated Superior room or Junior Suite. A quiet room, updated bathroom, reliable hot water, and working climate control should be requested when booking.
Torbräu Location and Nearby Transportation
Walking from Isartor
After leaving Isartor S-Bahn station, head toward the Isartor city gate and Tal. From the gate, Torbräu is approximately a two-minute walk toward Marienplatz. The closest exit has stairs. Travelers with large luggage should use the elevator exit, which increases the walk to about seven minutes. Escalators may not operate early in the morning.
Marienplatz and Old Town Sights
Tal leads directly to Marienplatz and the New Town Hall. The walk usually takes five to ten minutes. Cafés, restaurants, and shops line the street. Viktualienmarkt and Hofbräuhaus are also within easy walking distance. After dinner or drinks, it is possible to return to the hotel without using a taxi.
Deutsches Museum and Airport Access
The Deutsches Museum is approximately a ten-minute walk toward the Isar River. S-Bahn trains connect Munich Airport with Isartor station. The short distance between the station and hotel is convenient for an early departure or late arrival.
