BEYOND by Geisel Hotel Review at a Glance
I stayed at BEYOND by Geisel in early January, mid-April, and early June 2026. Its strongest feature is the location directly beside Marienplatz, with views of the New Town Hall and Glockenspiel from selected rooms and the lounge. The rooms were spacious, modern, and generally very clean. The larger bathrooms, soft bedding, complimentary snacks, and personal front desk service were highlights. My most expensive night cost €1,000. Breakfast cost €40 per person, while public parking cost €45 per night. The experience was not equally good in every room. Rooms close to reception and the breakfast area could be extremely noisy, and the air conditioning failed during the June stay. Breakfast pricing and included items were also unclear. It is an appealing choice for location and views, but room placement and extra charges should be confirmed before booking.

Stay dates and actual costs
I used a Marienplatz-view room in early January, a double room with a balcony in mid-April, and a larger room with a spacious bathroom in early June. On a high-demand night, the room cost €1,000 for one night. Breakfast was not included with every rate. I paid €40 per person for breakfast and €45 per night for public parking. A two-night stay with a car therefore added €90 in parking charges before any food or drinks.
Online booking and card payment
I completed the booking online and prepaid the room by card. Breakfast, parking, and additional food and drinks were charged to the same card at the hotel. I did not need cash. The rate descriptions required careful reading. A flexible rate referred to cancellation terms and did not mean breakfast was included. During one stay, a misunderstanding about a dining package produced approximately €200 in unexpected charges.

Hidden entrance and arrival
The street entrance is discreet and easy to miss. There is no large ground-floor lobby or prominent hotel doorway. I had to use an intercom at a small entrance and take an elevator to the upper floors. On my first arrival, I used the nearest elevator and discovered that it did not reach the hotel. Once upstairs, passport and reservation checks were usually efficient. A welcome drink and a short introduction to the hotel were provided on several visits.
Departure, luggage, and extra charges
Check-out was usually quick. I returned the key and reviewed the outstanding room charges. The hotel stored my luggage after check-out and arranged airport transportation when requested. The main problem was the final bill. Coffee, tea, and some breakfast orders were occasionally charged even though they had been described as complimentary or included. I recommend requesting an itemized bill the evening before departure.

Superior Double Room with a View
The Superior Double Room facing Marienplatz was spacious by central European city-hotel standards. The New Town Hall and Glockenspiel filled the view from the window. Storage was generous, and the bed was prepared with two separate duvets. The main weakness depended on room placement. Some rooms opened directly onto the shared lounge and reception area, making indoor noise more noticeable.
Junior Suite with Marienplatz View
The Junior Suite provided considerably more space around the bed and seating area. Its bathroom included a bathtub, separate shower, large double sink, and separate toilet. The direct view of the town hall was the main reason to pay for this category. The room was clean and comfortable, although a few pieces of furniture showed light wear. At this hotel, a direct Marienplatz view is worth prioritizing over a lower-priced side room.
Balcony Room and Terrace Suite
The balcony room offered views of St. Peter’s Church and the rooftops of Munich’s old town. The larger terrace suite included outdoor seating and an additional guest toilet. Some smaller balconies were too narrow for extended use. Side-facing rooms also had higher windows and a more limited view. When booking, I recommend confirming both the terrace size and the exact direction of the room.

Mattress, pillows, and bedding
Most beds were comfortable. The bedding felt soft and clean, while the pillows were supportive without being excessively high. One room had a very soft mattress that allowed my body to sink deeply into the bed. I woke with noticeable back discomfort. Guests who need a firmer mattress should request one before arrival.
Desk, outlets, and lighting
The desk was large enough for a laptop and personal items. There were usable outlets for phones, cameras, and a computer. The lighting controls were less successful. Several switches were confusing, and some did not respond consistently. It took time to find the correct combination for reading, relaxing, or using the bathroom at night.
Windows and room smell
The rooms had no unpleasant odor and felt fresh on arrival. Closed windows blocked most ordinary noise from Marienplatz. The terrace doors were useful for ventilation, but opening them late at night brought in noise from nearby restaurants and bars. Between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m., staff outside could be heard moving tables and chairs.

Room cleaning and towel service
The bed, floor, bathroom, and sink area were usually spotless at check-in. Towels were clean, thick, and in good condition. During a stay affected by heavy snow, employees had difficulty reaching the hotel. Across a three-night stay, turndown service and towel replacement were completed only on the first evening. The circumstances were unusual, but the reduced service was disappointing at this price level.
Furniture and common areas
The rooms had modern finishes, wood flooring, and attractive stone bathrooms. Some furniture showed visible wear along edges and surfaces. The lounge and library were normally clean. On one slow breakfast morning, used napkins and dishes remained on a table, and dust was visible nearby. Guest rooms were more consistently maintained than the breakfast area during busy periods.
BEYOND by Geisel Bathroom and Amenities
Shower, bathtub, and hot water
The larger bathrooms were among the best parts of the stay. A double sink, separate toilet, bathtub, and shower provided enough space for two people. Water pressure from the rain shower was strong. On one occasion, however, the second person received only lukewarm water. The Deluxe Room had a small shower without a door, causing water to spill onto the bathmat and floor.
Sink and towels
The large sink counter provided plenty of room for toiletries. Towels were thick, clean, and pleasant to use. Heated bathroom flooring was especially welcome in January. Some rooms did not have a full door between the bedroom and bathroom. That may be acceptable for couples but less comfortable for friends sharing a room.
Minibar and toiletries
Filtered water and part of the minibar were complimentary. The lounge provided fruit, cookies, pretzels, chips, nuts, and sweets. Bathroom items included a high-quality hairdryer, hair straightener, nail file, cotton pads, cotton swabs, and small fragrance samples. The major omission was a kettle or coffee machine in the room. Tea and coffee had to be requested or collected from the lounge, and charges varied by booking package.
BEYOND by Geisel Noise and Climate Control
Bells and Marienplatz noise
Closed windows reduced most normal crowd noise from the square. The bells from several nearby towers could still be heard between approximately 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. They became less noticeable after the first night. Demonstrations and public events were louder, with music and announcements reaching the room. Street-facing rooms could also receive late-night and early-morning traffic noise.
Reception and breakfast-area noise
The most serious noise came from inside the hotel. Several rooms were positioned immediately beside reception, the kitchen, lounge seating, or the breakfast area. Conversations, dishes, and morning preparations could be heard clearly. In one room, the sound disturbed my sleep even with earplugs. Rooms farther from the common area were much quieter. I recommend requesting a room away from reception and breakfast seating.
Air conditioning and heating
Climate control worked properly during the April visit. In early June, the air conditioner began making a loud noise and stopped cooling the room effectively. Changing the temperature and restarting the unit did not solve the problem. The night employee was unable to repair it. Opening the terrace doors lowered the temperature slightly but introduced outdoor noise until early morning. That was a major failure in a room costing €1,000 for the night.
BEYOND by Geisel Breakfast Review
Prices and included items
Breakfast is served à la carte rather than as a buffet. I paid €40 per person during one stay. On another visit, the options were listed at €17.50 and €35, with additional items costing €8. The different price levels were difficult to understand. Even with a breakfast package, certain menu orders could appear as extra charges. I recommend confirming the included food and drinks before ordering.
Food and drinks
Coffee and cappuccino were very good, and freshly prepared dishes were enjoyable on the better mornings. Fresh fruit and small snacks were also available throughout the day. During a longer stay, the breakfast choices became repetitive. Croissants were underbaked on more than one occasion. At €40 per person, I expected a broader selection of bread, fruit, and hot dishes.
Seating and waiting time
Breakfast is served in the lounge overlooking Marienplatz. The view is exceptional, but many seats are low lounge chairs paired with small tables. They are less comfortable for a full meal than normal dining chairs. On one morning, orange juice took approximately 30 minutes, followed by another 15-minute wait for a plate. It is sensible to allow at least one hour for breakfast.
BEYOND by Geisel Staff Service
Front desk
Front desk employees were generally warm, professional, and helpful. They introduced the property, made restaurant reservations, provided local recommendations, stored luggage, and arranged airport transfers. Early arrivals were handled politely. Service was less successful when technical problems or billing questions appeared. Not every employee could explain which drinks, snacks, and breakfast items were complimentary.
Breakfast staff
On quiet mornings, breakfast service was attentive and personal. Staff asked about preferences and prepared food to order. During busier periods, the small team struggled with orders, table clearing, and food delivery. When one employee covered both reception and breakfast service, delays increased quickly.
Housekeeping staff
With normal staffing, the room and bathroom were cleaned thoroughly. Beds and towels were prepared to a high standard. Service became inconsistent when staffing was limited. Cleaning and turndown could be skipped, and replacement items sometimes had to be requested. More dependable daily service would better match the room price.
BEYOND by Geisel Parking and Overall Satisfaction
Public parking
The hotel does not have a private garage with direct guest access. I used a nearby public car park and walked several minutes with my luggage. Parking cost €45 per night. There was no valet parking or hotel luggage collection from the garage. Weekend access to the Marienplatz car park could be congested. For this location, arriving by S-Bahn or U-Bahn is easier than driving.
Advantages, disadvantages, and return visit
The main advantages are the direct Marienplatz view, central location, spacious rooms, large bathrooms, clean bedding, and personal front desk service. Watching the Glockenspiel from the lounge is a memorable feature. The disadvantages are the high room price, inconsistent soundproofing, a very soft mattress in one room, air-conditioning problems, unclear breakfast charges, and the lack of private parking. I would stay again for a well-priced room with a direct view and a location away from reception. At close to €1,000 per night, I recommend comparing other Munich luxury hotels first.
BEYOND by Geisel Location and Transportation
From Marienplatz Station to the hotel
Exit Marienplatz S-Bahn or U-Bahn station toward the New Town Hall and Glockenspiel. From the square, walk a few minutes toward Rindermarkt and St. Peter’s Church. The entrance resembles the doorway of a commercial building rather than a conventional hotel entrance. Use the intercom and then take the correct elevator to the upper floors. On a first visit, the building number and intercom label are more useful than looking for a large hotel sign.
Nearby landmarks and public transport
The New Town Hall and Glockenspiel are directly outside the hotel. St. Peter’s Church and Viktualienmarkt are only a few minutes away on foot. Frauenkirche, Hofbräuhaus, and the Munich Residenz are also within easy walking distance. Odeonsplatz is approximately ten minutes away. Marienplatz station provides both S-Bahn and U-Bahn connections, making Munich Central Station and the airport accessible without a car.
