LOUIS Hotel Stay at a Glance
LOUIS Hotel sits directly beside Viktualienmarkt and is one of the most convenient hotels for exploring Munich’s Old Town on foot. I stayed in different room categories in mid-February, early April, and early June 2026. The location, complimentary minibar, comfortable bedding, and understated interiors were the main highlights. The weaker points were small rear-facing rooms, shower curtains, limited storage, inconsistent air conditioning, and uneven housekeeping and service. Room direction makes a major difference because market-facing and courtyard-facing rooms have different noise issues. During a busy period, I paid about €480 per night. Breakfast cost €39 per person.
LOUIS Hotel Booking, Price, Check-in, and Check-out
Stay Dates and Room Rates
In mid-February 2026, I stayed for two nights in a Courtyard Superior Room and paid €960 for the room without breakfast. In early April, I booked a Market View Room overlooking Viktualienmarkt. In early June, I used a smaller single room. The single room and some rear-facing rooms were noticeably tighter than expected. The larger market-facing room had enough space for two people and several suitcases.
Booking and Payment
I booked online and paid the final bill by credit card at check-out. The same card was registered during check-in for the room and incidental expenses. Drinks and snacks in the minibar were included. Water ordered separately was charged at €9 per bottle. Four bottles added €36 to the final bill, and the charge had not been explained clearly when the water was delivered.
Check-in Experience
A normal check-in took less than ten minutes. Passport and booking details were checked quickly, and the staff explained the elevators, room location, and minibar policy. On one visit, a two-person reservation appeared in the system as one person per room. The breakfast entitlement was also incorrect. The issue was fixed after I showed the confirmation email, but the first response from the desk was not helpful.
Check-out Experience
Check-out itself was simple. I returned the room card, reviewed the extras, and paid by card. It was important to check minibar, breakfast, and water charges line by line. When I used the parking service, the car took a long time to arrive. Anyone leaving early should request the vehicle well in advance.
LOUIS Hotel Room Types
Market View Room
The Market View Room was the best room category I used. It overlooked Viktualienmarkt and the surrounding Old Town buildings. The room was large by central Munich standards and included a desk, coffee machine, minibar, seating area, and good space around the bed. One larger category had a separate bedroom with a real door. Wardrobe space was limited, especially for two people carrying winter clothing.
Courtyard Superior Room
The Courtyard Superior Room was quiet on most evenings. A room with a small balcony offered a useful outdoor space and very little street noise at night. However, some rear rooms felt too small for a rate of €480 per night. On one morning, rubbish collection started at about 6:45 a.m. and was loud enough to wake me.
Single Room
The single room worked for a brief business stay but was not ideal for spending much time inside. The desk was too small for a laptop and personal items, and there was not enough floor space for an open suitcase. Some rooms lacked a practical full-length mirror. Lighting around the entrance and bathroom was also too dim.
LOUIS Hotel Bed, Cleanliness, and Bathroom
Bed and Bedding
Most beds were comfortable, and the linen felt soft and fresh. The standard pillows were occasionally too low, but the pillow menu made it possible to request a firmer or higher option. The larger bed in the market-facing room had plenty of space for two people. One mattress was thinner and less supportive than expected from a hotel in this price range.
Room Cleanliness
During my first stay, the floor, bedding, and bathroom were spotless. Housekeeping also replenished the minibar and coffee capsules each day. On another three-night stay, towels and bed linen were not changed. Used glasses remained in the room, and cleaning was missed completely after I left the room later than 10 a.m. I had to contact reception before the room was serviced.
Shower, Water Pressure, and Sink
The larger bathroom had a bathtub, a wide sink, and a heated mirror that did not steam up easily. Smaller bathrooms had very little counter space. Several rooms still used a shower curtain instead of a glass door. The curtain touched the body while showering, and water easily reached the bathroom floor. Hot water arrived quickly, but water pressure varied between rooms. A rain shower did not work properly during one stay.
Towels and Bathroom Condition
Towels were usually thick and clean. After one housekeeping visit, all used towels were removed and only one replacement was left. An older bathroom had dark grout, rust around part of the sink, and a loose shampoo holder. Bathroom and toilet lighting was also weak in some rooms. These details were disappointing at €480 per night.
LOUIS Hotel Air Conditioning, Soundproofing, and Amenities
Heating and Cooling
Room temperature was easy to manage in February and April. In early June, the air conditioning in one room was too weak. Even at a low setting, the room cooled very slowly. A small fan was offered instead of a proper repair. Humidity also remained in a windowless bathroom when the ventilation was not working well.
Street and Hallway Noise
Soundproofing depended heavily on room position. In one Market View Room, the church bells were barely audible with the window closed. In another room, police and ambulance sirens could be heard, along with low bass from a nearby venue on Saturday night. A courtyard room avoided most street noise but received early rubbish collection noise. Voices from the corridor and neighboring rooms were usually well blocked.
Minibar and In-room Amenities
The complimentary minibar contained water, soft drinks, beer, and small snacks. It was refilled daily when housekeeping was completed properly. The room also included a capsule coffee machine, tea, a safe, and a yoga mat. Bath products were pleasant, but a toothbrush and toothpaste were not always provided. Wi-Fi worked well on two stays but disconnected repeatedly during another visit.
Elevators and Security
The entrance arrangement, with stairs, a passage, and two elevators, was unusual at first. A room key was needed for the elevators and some hotel doors. At breakfast and check-out time, I occasionally waited several minutes. There was also one worrying incident involving the room lock, and reception did not provide a clear explanation. That response was not reassuring.
LOUIS Hotel Breakfast and Staff
Breakfast for €39
Breakfast cost €39 per person. It combined an à la carte menu with self-service breads and pastries. Choices included eggs, white sausages, salmon, ham, cheese, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee. Food was prepared after ordering and generally tasted good. Portions were small, and I needed to order three or four items for a full breakfast. At this price, service and replenishment should have been more consistent.
Weekend Brunch for €59
Weekend brunch cost €59 per person. Prosecco, juice, pastries, egg dishes, and open sandwiches were included. A sandwich with Brie, walnut pesto, cranberry, and roasted pear was especially good, as was the salmon, cucumber, and dill option. On a weaker visit, the brunch felt like a standard breakfast buffet. Coffee and Prosecco had to be requested several times, and white sausages took almost 40 minutes.
Front Desk Staff
Most front desk employees were warm, professional, and useful. They helped with restaurant suggestions, transportation, late luggage, and local advice. Some remembered earlier preferences and checked them before assigning the room. Complaint handling was less reliable. Booking errors were initially denied, and follow-up emails were not always answered.
Breakfast and Housekeeping Staff
Breakfast staff were excellent on quiet mornings, regularly offering more coffee and explaining the menu. During busy periods, orders were forgotten or delivered incorrectly. One staff member responded rudely when asked about a missing item. Housekeeping also varied from excellent daily service to missing towels, glasses, water, and room cleaning.
LOUIS Hotel Parking and Overall Verdict
Parking Facilities
LOUIS Hotel does not have a large private garage inside the building. Cars are placed in a nearby public or partner garage, with parking costing about €40 per day. Driving through the Old Town is difficult because the streets are narrow and crowded with pedestrians. Guests with heavy luggage should ask where to unload before arriving.
Valet Parking
The valet service saved time on arrival but created a delay at check-out. A concern about wheel damage was not handled to my satisfaction. Unless a rental car is essential, public transportation is the better option for this hotel.
Main Advantages and Disadvantages
The strongest advantages are the Viktualienmarkt location, quick walk to Marienplatz, well-equipped larger rooms, free minibar, comfortable bedding, and good breakfast choices. The main disadvantages are the high price, small rear rooms, shower curtains, limited storage, weak cooling, room-dependent noise, and inconsistent service. At €480 per night, minor problems become much harder to accept.
Would I Stay Again?
I would stay again in a Market View Room if the rate and breakfast package were reasonable. I would not recommend paying €480 for one of the smallest courtyard rooms. Guests who need quiet sleep should request a high-floor room and confirm its direction before arrival. It is also worth checking the air conditioning, bathroom, and cleaning condition immediately after check-in.
LOUIS Hotel Location and Transportation
Walking from Marienplatz Station
From Marienplatz station, use the exit toward Viktualienmarkt and walk toward the market. The hotel is about three to five minutes away. Its entrance is set inside a passage, so it is easy to miss on the first visit. Marienplatz station connects to multiple S-Bahn services as well as the U3 and U6.
Nearby Landmarks and Shopping
Viktualienmarkt is directly outside the hotel. Marienplatz, the New Town Hall, St. Peter’s Church, Frauenkirche, and Hofbräuhaus are all within walking distance. The shops along Kaufingerstraße are also only a few minutes away. The area is busy during the day but becomes calmer after the market closes.
Getting to Munich Airport
From Munich Airport, take the S1 or S8 directly to Marienplatz and walk to the hotel. A taxi booked through the hotel cost €105, while a ride-hailing service for the same trip was about €58. Travelers with manageable luggage should take the S-Bahn.
