Premier Inn Munich Stay Summary

Premier Inn in Munich is strongest when it comes to location. It sits between Sendlinger Tor and Karlsplatz(Stachus), so the Old Town, Marienplatz, the main station, shopping streets, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams are all easy to reach. As a short-stay city hotel, it can work well, but the rooms and service are inconsistent. Some rooms had comfortable beds, good blackout, and spacious bathrooms. Other rooms had stained carpets, dust, hair, mold in the bathroom, shower leaks, weak heating or air conditioning, and missed housekeeping. Breakfast cost between 17.90 euros and 19.90 euros per person, and it covered the basics without being special. Parking in the hotel garage cost 30 to 31 euros per night. During Oktoberfest, I paid 1,233 US dollars for 3 nights, so peak-season prices can be high. I would book this hotel for location and a good rate, but I would check the room carefully right after check-in.

Premier Inn Check-in, Check-out and Payment

Arrival and Room Assignment

Check-in was often quick. The front desk checked the booking, looked at the passport, issued the key card and explained the basics without much waiting. The regular check-in time was 3 p.m. When a room was ready earlier, early check-in cost 20 euros. On good days, the reception staff were friendly and helpful with directions around Munich. One serious mistake did happen: I was given a room number that could have led me into an already occupied room. That is not a small issue, so I now check the room number and key card carefully as soon as I receive them.

Check-out and Room Entry Before Departure

Check-out until 12 p.m. is a real advantage. It gives enough time to sleep in, pack and leave without rushing. Late check-out until 4 p.m. cost 20 euros. Extra charges such as breakfast, parking and early check-in were shown at check-out. The disappointing part was housekeeping before departure. Staff opened the door before check-out time while the room was still in use. Once it happened without a proper knock, and another time the door opened almost immediately after knocking. When staying here, I recommend using the inside door lock whenever you are in the room.

Card, Cash and Cancellation Terms

Payment was possible online or at the hotel, depending on the booking. Card payment usually worked, but contactless payment failed once, and inserting the card into the machine solved it. Cash payment was less smooth because change and payment confirmation were not handled well at first. I recommend asking for a receipt or payment confirmation immediately. Non-refundable bookings can be risky. A cancellation fee of 90 percent may apply, so it is worth checking the dates and cancellation terms before booking, even if the room rate looks attractive.

Premier Inn Room Review by Type

Standard Double Room

The standard double room is simple and practical. It works for one or two nights in Munich, but with two large suitcases the space becomes tight. The room had a bed, a small work area, TV, kettle, cups, tea and coffee. The bed was often comfortable, though one mattress felt worn. Bedding was warm and soft, and it was useful to have both soft and firm pillows in the room. Some pillows felt too low. A large shared duvet for two people was not ideal when both guests had different sleeping preferences.

Premier Plus Room

The Premier Plus room was not always a clear upgrade. On one stay, the bed was excellent and the room felt warm and comfortable. On another stay, it did not feel much better than a standard room. Some Premier Plus rooms faced the busy street, which matters a lot. With the window closed, the soundproofing was acceptable. With the window open, it was too loud. There was still no proper wardrobe, safe or fridge. I would only choose Premier Plus when the price difference is small. For better sleep, I would rather request a quieter room facing the inner side.

Family Room and Four-Person Room

The family room for three people worked better. It was warm, clean and the beds were comfortable enough for a short Munich trip. The four-person room was a different story. The extra bed was a thin mattress on a metal frame placed between the single bed and the double bed. It was about 75 cm wide and around 180 cm long. It did not feel like a proper bed. For families with more than one child, I recommend booking two nearby rooms instead of one four-person room.

Premier Inn Room Cleanliness and Facilities

Bedding, Carpet and Walls

Cleanliness depended heavily on the room. Some rooms were clean and ready, while others had dust, hair, crumbs and visible marks. The carpet was the weakest part. In some rooms it had clear stains, and the corridors sometimes smelled musty. Walls had scuffs, and windows were sometimes cloudy or marked with fingerprints. I also had stained towels and torn bed linen on one stay. After entering the room, it is worth checking the bed, bathroom and towels before unpacking.

In-room Facilities

The room setup is basic. There was a kettle, cups, TV, hair dryer and simple toiletries. There was no welcome water, minibar, fridge, safe, phone, iron, tissue box or facecloth. Storage was limited to a small shelf and a few hangers, so longer stays can feel inconvenient. The hair dryer was weak or too hot in some rooms. A kettle once failed to work properly and was not fixed even after asking several times.

Housekeeping

Daily housekeeping is not automatic. It needs to be requested. That is acceptable when it is clearly explained and then actually done, but it did not always happen. A room was not cleaned even after asking, and fresh towels did not always arrive. In that case, going to the front desk was faster. At the same time, there were cases where staff entered even though housekeeping had not been requested. Small electronics and valuables should not be left out in the open.

Premier Inn Bathroom and Shower Review

Water Pressure, Hot Water and Sink

Some bathrooms were surprisingly spacious and modern for this price level. In the better rooms, the shower was strong, the shower head was high enough, and hot water was reliable. Other bathrooms were less satisfying. One shower had weak water pressure, and the temperature was hard to set to lukewarm. A sink also drained slowly and held water. Bathroom issues should be reported on the first day, not at check-out.

Shower Leaks and Mold

The most annoying bathroom problem was water leaking from the shower area. The shower door did not seal properly in some rooms, so the bathroom floor became wet after every shower. In a few rooms, towels were needed just to dry the floor. There were also poor-looking joints, broken shower fittings, damaged corners and mold on the ceiling or between tiles. A yellowed toilet seat and hair left from a previous guest are not things I want to see in a hotel room.

Premier Inn Noise, Air Conditioning and Windows

Street-facing Rooms

The hotel’s central location comes with noise. Rooms facing Sonnenstraße can get tram and traffic noise. With the window closed, soundproofing was often good. With the window open, sleeping was difficult. On weekends, bass from a nearby club or bar could continue into the early morning. Light sleepers should bring earplugs and request a room away from the street.

Inner-side Rooms and Hallway Noise

Rooms facing the inner side or back of the building were much quieter. In those rooms, I could sleep with the window open. Hallway noise was still noticeable at times. Room doors and stairwell doors closed loudly, and vacuuming in nearby rooms could be heard in the morning. The room location makes a big difference at this hotel.

Heating, Air Conditioning and Window Opening

Heating and air conditioning were inconsistent. The air conditioning only worked when the key card was in the slot, so the room was warm after being out for a while. In some rooms the air conditioning barely cooled. In winter, heating took hours to make the room warm, and in one room it did not work properly in freezing weather. Some windows did not open or only tilted slightly. Anyone who needs fresh air should ask about window opening and room direction before or during check-in.

Premier Inn Breakfast, Bar and Self-service Market

Breakfast Menu and Price

Breakfast at Premier Inn covers the basics: bread, rolls, pretzels, croissants, ham, cheese, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee machine drinks and eggs. Children under 16 could eat breakfast for free, which is a strong point for families. The price was between 17.90 euros and 19.90 euros per person.

Food Quality and Breakfast Room

Breakfast was enough to get through the morning, but it was not memorable. The scrambled eggs were more like a soft block than fresh scrambled eggs. Boiled eggs were a safer choice. Some fruit came from a can, and vegetarian options were limited. Bread and coffee were fine. For the price, I prefer eating at a bakery or café nearby. The breakfast room was not always relaxing. Dishes were cleared quickly on some mornings but left on the table on others. Some staff members did not greet guests warmly, and hearing a vacuum cleaner during breakfast was not pleasant.

Lobby, Bar and Market Area

The lobby is modern and useful. The self-service market with drinks and snacks is a good idea, especially on Sundays when many German shops are closed. The bar was pleasant on some evenings, and one bartender gave excellent restaurant suggestions. The menu was small, though, and not everything was always available. Once, late in the evening, I could not even buy a bottle of water and was told to go to a nearby gas station. That was a weak service moment.

Premier Inn Staff and Service

Front Desk

Front desk service ranged from very good to disappointing. Good staff made check-in easy, gave useful directions and helped with room questions. There were also unmotivated or poorly coordinated moments. Some staff mainly spoke English, which is fine for many travelers but still unexpected for some guests in Munich. Questions sent through booking platforms were not always answered. Technical issues such as a faulty kettle or air conditioning were not always solved.

Breakfast and Housekeeping Staff

Breakfast service had the biggest mood swings. A friendly good morning was not guaranteed, and some responses felt cold. Housekeeping also needs better handling. Rooms were not cleaned even after requests, while on other occasions staff entered rooms before check-out. Privacy should be handled more carefully in a hotel. I recommend keeping belongings packed away and using the inside door lock whenever you are in the room.

Premier Inn Parking and Value for Money

Room Rate and Extra Costs

Premier Inn can be good value for central Munich, but extra costs add up quickly. During Oktoberfest, 3 nights cost 1,233 US dollars. Early check-in cost 20 euros, and late check-out until 4 p.m. also cost 20 euros. Breakfast cost 17.90 euros to 19.90 euros per person. Non-refundable bookings may involve a 90 percent cancellation fee. I would only book when the room rate, travel dates and cancellation terms all make sense.

Garage and Public Transport

The hotel has an underground garage with direct access, which is convenient. It was not too tight and not always full. The price of 30 to 31 euros per night is high, and there was no EV charging. Some garage areas could also be better maintained. If the plan is mainly sightseeing in Munich, a car is not necessary. U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams are close enough that public transport is usually the better option. There are also other paid parking options around Stachus worth comparing before arrival.

Premier Inn Pros, Cons and Whether I Would Return

What Worked Well

The biggest advantage is location. Sendlinger Tor, Karlsplatz, Marienplatz, the main station, the Old Town and shopping streets are all easy to reach. In good rooms, the beds were comfortable, blackout worked well, bathrooms were a decent size and nights were quiet. The lobby, self-service market and key-card access to the lift and floors were also positive.

What Did Not Work Well

The main problems were inconsistent cleanliness, stained carpets, mold in some bathrooms, leaking showers, missed housekeeping, street noise, weak climate control and uneven service. Breakfast is only average for the price. I would not recommend this hotel as a first choice for families of four sharing one room, light sleepers on weekends, or travelers expecting daily housekeeping and polished service.

Would I Stay Again?

I would stay at Premier Inn again if the price is good and I can get a quiet room facing the inner side. For a short Munich city trip, it is practical. After check-in, I would immediately check the bathroom, bedding, towels, heating or air conditioning and window. If something is wrong, it is better to ask for a different room right away.

Premier Inn Munich Location and Nearby Transport

Premier Inn is located between Sendlinger Tor and Karlsplatz(Stachus). From Sendlinger Tor, U-Bahn and tram connections are easy. From Karlsplatz, there is S-Bahn access and a direct walk into the main shopping area. Munich Central Station is about a 10 to 15-minute walk away. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, the Old Town, restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and Christmas markets are all easy to reach. For sightseeing in Munich, the location is excellent. The area around Sonnenstraße, however, is not the prettiest part of the city. There can be heavy traffic, tram noise, graffiti and people sleeping on the pavement. Solo travelers, especially late at night, should stick to the brighter main streets around Sendlinger Tor, Karlsplatz or the station. For the airport, the S-Bahn from Karlsplatz or the main station is the easiest option, and the Lufthansa Airport Express is also reachable from the station area.
