Review Summary

Pension Margit is a budget-friendly hotel in Munich near the main train station and Theresienwiese. It is not a modern luxury hotel, but it works well for short Munich stays, train travelers, Oktoberfest trips, and families looking for a practical room near public transport. The room quality changes a lot by room type. Family rooms and quadruple rooms were spacious, and some had a fridge, balcony, or small kitchenette. Some double rooms and ground-floor rooms were small, hot, and noisy when the window was open. Beds were usually comfortable, but one mattress was worn out. Breakfast cost 10 euros per person and included bread, eggs, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee, and sausages. The breakfast room is very small, so it gets crowded quickly. There is no private hotel parking, so arriving by train, tram, or subway is a better choice.

Price and Payment

Room Price

For a double room, I paid about 95 euros per night. For two people, the room came to around 100 euros per night. A family room or quadruple room cost around 200 euros per night depending on the travel period. For a Munich hotel near the main station, the price is attractive. Still, the value depends heavily on the room. A clean and quiet room feels like a good deal, but an older room with weak facilities feels less convincing.

Breakfast Price

Breakfast was 10 euros per person. For that price, the selection was decent. There were bread rolls, sliced bread, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, sausages, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee. It was enough for a simple start before walking around Munich. It is not the kind of hotel breakfast with many hot dishes, scrambled eggs, and made-to-order items.

Payment Method

I booked online first, then confirmed the reservation and passport at the reception. I paid by card at the hotel. Breakfast was added separately during check-in. Once, the price needed extra checking because the amount from the reservation and the amount explained at the desk did not match right away. I recommend keeping the reservation price and included services ready on your phone.

Check-in and Check-out

Check-in

Check-in was usually easy. The reception checked the booking, explained the key and breakfast time, and answered simple questions. Even with limited German, the staff explained things patiently. On one visit, I had to wait about 15 minutes before someone came to the reception. For late arrival, checking the self check-in message in advance is important.

Early and Late Arrival

When I arrived early, I could leave my luggage and change clothes while the room was still being finished. That helped a lot after a train ride. Late arrival also worked because the self check-in instructions were clear. Still, the reception is not always fully available late at night, so it is better to check all hotel messages before arrival.

Check-out

Check-out was quick. I returned the key, confirmed any extra breakfast or minibar charges, and left without delay. The hotel is convenient for an early train because Munich Hauptbahnhof is within walking distance. Extra costs were explained clearly.

Room Types

Double Room

The double room changed a lot depending on the assigned room. A larger room had enough space for luggage and moving around. A smaller room felt tight once the suitcase was opened. The bed was generally comfortable, but one mattress was noticeably worn. The pillows were low and not evenly filled, so they did not suit every sleeper.

Twin Room

The twin room worked well for two people. One room had a bed placed directly next to the heater, and that made the night too hot. Even with the heating set low, the temperature near the bed stayed uncomfortable. The bed itself was comfortable, but the position next to the radiator was a problem.

Family Room and Quadruple Room

The family rooms and quadruple rooms are one of the better parts of Pension Margit. The quadruple room was spacious, clean, and easy to use. Some rooms had a fridge and a small kitchenette. That is useful for families or small groups. In one triple-style room, there were two single beds and a small sofa bed. A separated entrance area inside the room made it easier to store luggage. Some rooms had a balcony, although it was small.

Ground-floor Room

A ground-floor room would not be my first choice. When the window was open, street noise and cigarette smell came into the room. On a warm day, that was frustrating because there was no air conditioning. A street-facing room also picked up tram noise, restaurant noise, and people outside late at night. A higher-floor room or courtyard-facing room is the better choice.

Cleanliness and Bedding

Room Cleaning

The rooms were mostly clean. Bedding, bathroom, and towels were prepared properly. During a two-night stay, bedsheets and pillowcases were refreshed after the first night. However, cleaning was not always consistent. In one room, hair and dust remained, and the older carpet and worn furniture made the room feel less fresh.

Bedding Quality

The bedding was basic but clean. In a good room, I slept well. In an older room, the mattress was too soft and worn down. The pillows also felt uneven. Guests who care a lot about mattress condition and pillow height should ask for a room with a better bed.

Room Smell

Courtyard-facing rooms were usually fine. Some older rooms had a musty smell, drain smell, or odor coming from the bathroom ventilation. Once, turning on the bathroom fan brought an unpleasant smell into the room. I recommend checking the room right after check-in and asking for a change immediately if the smell is strong.

Room Facilities

Fridge and Small Kitchenette

A fridge in the room was useful. It was easy to store water, snacks, and small food items. Some family rooms had a small kitchenette inside a cabinet. It is not an apartment hotel, but for a short Munich stay, it is helpful.

Desk, Lighting, and Power

The room facilities were basic. Some rooms had a TV, small desk, and fridge. The furniture was old in several rooms but still usable. The lighting was more cozy than bright. For long laptop work, the room is not ideal. For sleeping, showering, and taking breaks during a city trip, it is enough.

Amenities

Basic bathroom amenities were provided. Towels were clean and enough for regular use. Some rooms did not have an electric kettle or glasses. Anyone who likes drinking tea or hot water at night should bring a cup or use the hot drinks from the breakfast area.

Bathroom and Shower

Bathroom Size

The bathroom depended on the room. Renovated bathrooms were clean, bright, and comfortable. Some had a large shower and good space. Older bathrooms were small, dated, and had no window. Ventilation was weaker in those rooms.

Water Pressure and Hot Water

In the better rooms, the shower was strong and hot. Hot water came quickly, and the temperature stayed stable. In other rooms, the water flow became weak during the shower. In the morning, hot water did not always come right away. For guests who like long showers, this is a real downside.

Towels and Sink

The towels were clean and properly prepared. The sink was usually clean. In older bathrooms, limescale on the shower head was visible. Some shower heads need better cleaning.

Noise and Temperature

Outside Noise

The location is central, but not always quiet. Street-facing rooms pick up tram noise, brake noise, and sounds from restaurants. At night, people outside and nearby bars can be loud. With the window closed, it is better. In summer, that becomes difficult because there is no air conditioning.

Hallway Noise

Hallway noise was also noticeable. Doors, footsteps, and conversations could be heard in older rooms. If quiet sleep matters, a courtyard-facing room away from the ground floor is the best request.

Heating and Air Conditioning

There was no air conditioning. In summer, the room became hot, and opening the window brought in noise. In winter, the heating worked well, sometimes too well. A bed directly next to the radiator is not comfortable. Room choice matters a lot by season.

Breakfast

Menu

Breakfast for 10 euros was good for a small pension. There were bread rolls, bread, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, cereal, jam, Nutella, honey, fruit, yogurt, juice, and coffee. It was enough before a full day in Munich. Coffee was also available in the breakfast area outside breakfast time.

Weak Points

Breakfast was not perfect every day. Some bread rolls were chewy and not warmed properly. There were no hot egg dishes. Coffee was weak on one morning. For stays longer than two nights, the menu can feel repetitive.

Breakfast Room

The breakfast room is very small. Tables are close together, and seats fill quickly. When many guests come at the same time, it is necessary to wait or sit in the lobby. I recommend going early.

Staff and Service

Reception

The reception was usually very friendly. Staff helped with reservations, luggage, document printing, and directions. Some staff members explained slowly and patiently, even when German was difficult. Josefina, Albina, and Tony stood out for helpful service.

Breakfast Staff

The breakfast staff were warm and attentive. Food was refilled, coffee was offered, and questions were answered quickly. In such a small breakfast room, kind service makes a big difference.

Less Positive Moments

Not every service moment was good. Once, the explanation at the reception was too short and not helpful enough. A price question was not answered clearly right away. Evening service also felt colder than daytime service. The experience depends strongly on who is working.

Parking

No Private Parking

The hotel does not have private parking. Guests arriving by car need to look for public street parking or a paid parking garage. Street parking is hard to find, and some machines require coins.

Best Arrival Option

For this location, public transport is clearly better. The main station, tram, subway, and bus connections are close. With luggage, the tram is the easiest option. By car, parking search and parking fees make the stay less convenient.

Pros

Location

The location is the biggest advantage. Munich Hauptbahnhof, tram stops, and Theresienwiese are all easy to reach. It is practical for Oktoberfest, train travel, and short Munich stays.

Value for Money

For Munich, the price is often attractive. Family rooms and quadruple rooms give good space for the money. Guests who do not expect luxury can get a simple and useful stay here.

Helpful Staff

Many staff members were friendly, patient, and helpful. Small details like coffee, croissants, document printing, luggage help, early arrival support, and late check-in instructions improved the stay.

Cons

Old Facilities

Some rooms are clearly dated. Furniture, doors, carpets, TV controls, and bathroom parts need maintenance or replacement. Guests expecting a modern hotel will not be satisfied.

Noise and Heat

Street-facing rooms and ground-floor rooms are noisy when the window is open. Without air conditioning, summer nights can be hot. This is important for light sleepers.

Breakfast Room and Wi-Fi

The breakfast room is too small. Wi-Fi was not reliable enough. For laptop work, the hotel is not the best choice.

Overall Rating and Recommendation

Overall Rating

Pension Margit is a simple, central, and affordable hotel in Munich. The location is very good, the 10-euro breakfast is decent, and many staff members are kind. Room quality varies a lot. A good room is clean, spacious, and comfortable. A weaker room can be old, noisy, hot, or not clean enough.

Recommendation

I recommend Pension Margit for short trips, train travelers, families needing a quadruple room, and Oktoberfest visitors. I recommend asking for a higher-floor room or a courtyard-facing room. For guests who need air conditioning, quiet nights, modern design, strong Wi-Fi, and private parking, this hotel is not the best choice.

Location and Access

Pension Margit is located between Munich Hauptbahnhof and Theresienwiese. From the main station, it takes about 7 to 10 minutes on foot via Bayerstraße. With luggage, the tram is easier because Hermann-Lingg-Straße stop is very close to the hotel. Theresienwiese and the Oktoberfest grounds are also within walking distance. Restaurants, bars, and small shops are nearby. The area is lively at night, so I recommend using the larger streets when walking back late.
