Hotel Review Summary
NH Collection München Bavaria is a hotel where location matters more than anything else. It sits right by Munich Central Station, so trains, subway lines, trams, airport connections and day trips are very easy. Marienplatz and the Old Town are also within walking distance. The rooms are modern, usually clean and much better in the higher floors, especially because of the city views and lower noise level. The breakfast is one of the strongest parts of the stay, with plenty of bread, eggs, fruit, yogurt, hot food, coffee and tea. Still, there are clear downsides: some lower-floor rooms face construction noise, a few bathrooms had odor issues, room sizes can be small, and front desk service was not always consistent. One booking came to about 200 euros per night. With breakfast and a high-floor room, the hotel works very well for a Munich stay.
Room Rate and Payment
Price per Night
For NH Collection München Bavaria, one stay came to about 200 euros per night. For two nights, I would expect around 400 euros before any extra spending, depending on date, room type and breakfast. It is not a cheap hotel, but the central location does save a lot of time.
The value depends heavily on the room. A high-floor room with a city view feels worth paying more for. From the upper floors, the view over Munich, the Olympiapark area and, on clear mornings, the distant mountains made the stay much better. A room facing construction did not feel worth the same price. If view matters, I recommend asking for a high floor away from the construction side.
Card Payment and Currency
The booking was made online, and payment was handled by card at the hotel. At check-in, the reservation and card were checked, and extra charges such as minibar, breakfast or room service were reviewed at check-out. I did not need cash during the stay.
One important point is payment currency. I selected euros and confirmed it, but one payment was processed in US dollars, which caused the final charge to be around 200 dollars higher than expected. At this hotel, I recommend checking the card terminal carefully and confirming EUR on the receipt before leaving the desk.
Check-in and Check-out
Arrival and Waiting Time
Check-in varied by timing. On an early arrival around 11 a.m., the reception team tried to arrange a room right away, which was very helpful after a long trip. On another busy arrival, the front desk line moved slowly because only one or two staff members were handling many guests.
Passport check, booking confirmation and card registration took longer when the lobby was busy. Online check-in did not help much when luggage still had to be dropped off or picked up. If you have a train to catch, it is better to check out earlier than usual.
Key Card and Departure
The key card was not always smooth. One time, I had to go back and forth between the room and reception several times because the card did not work. The elevator requires a key card to access guest floors, which is good for security, but key issues become annoying quickly.
Check-out itself was simple when there were no extra charges to discuss. Still, minibar, breakfast, room service and currency should be checked carefully. During busy hours, luggage pickup and final payment can take extra time.
Room Types and Room Experience
Standard and Queen Rooms
The standard and queen rooms are modern and functional. Bed, desk, coffee machine, minibar, large TV, wardrobe and lighting were all in place. For one person, the size works well. For two people with large suitcases, the room can feel tight.
Some rooms had a very practical wardrobe with drawers, a hidden luggage shelf and lighting. That was useful. Other rooms had limited storage. In a family room, the TV position was not ideal for both beds, and the storage space was not enough for three people.
Premium Rooms and Higher Floors
The higher floors are where this hotel performs best. Rooms on the 11th, 12th and 15th floors had impressive views over Munich and stayed quiet despite the station location. The view made the room feel more special.
However, booking a premium room does not guarantee the view you expect. A construction-facing room was disappointing for the price. Lower floors near the station construction and tram lines were much louder in the morning. Light sleepers should request a high floor.
Accessible Room Assignment
An accessible room can be useful for guests who need it, but it was uncomfortable when I had booked a regular premium-style stay. The bathroom layout, sink height and open shower area did not suit normal use.
The open shower made the bathroom floor wet quickly, and drainage was not fast enough. If you do not want this type of room, check the room assignment before settling in.
Bed, Bedding and Sleep Quality
Mattress and Pillows
The mattresses are firm. If you like a hard bed, you may sleep well here. After long walking days in Munich, the mattress felt too firm for me at times. Guests with back or neck sensitivity should keep this in mind.
The pillows were also mixed. Some gave good neck support, while others felt too hard. If you prefer softer bedding, ask for an extra pillow or duvet early.
Bedding Cleanliness
The bedding was mostly clean and comfortable. Sheets felt fresh, the bed was neatly made, and bathrobes and slippers were in good condition. That is what I expect from this category of hotel.
There were still problems. On one occasion, an insect was found on the pillow and the bedding had to be changed. The staff handled it quickly, but it should not happen. There were also days when daily sheet changes did not happen even when requested.
Cleanliness and Odor
Room Cleaning
Most rooms were clean, bright and modern. The desk, bed area and floor were well kept. The coffee machine, kettle, fridge and paid minibar made the room more comfortable.
Still, not every room was cleaned to the same standard. One coffee machine area was dirty. In one wardrobe, items from a previous guest were still there. In one bathroom, there was hair on the toilet seat. These details do not match the level expected from an NH Collection hotel.
Bathroom and Lobby Smell
Some bathrooms had an unpleasant drain smell. In one non-smoking room, the bathroom and towels smelled like cigarette smoke. If this happens, it is better to ask for a room change immediately, even if it is late.
The lobby scent was strong at times. Some guests may find it elegant, but for anyone sensitive to fragrance, it can be too much. In the room, being able to open the window helped.
Bathroom and Shower
Shower and Water Pressure
The bathrooms are modern, but not always practical. In good rooms, the shower pressure was strong and the controls were easy to use. The sink area was clean enough, and shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were provided.
The main downside was the open shower design in some rooms. Without a proper door, water spread across the bathroom floor even after a short shower. In one room, the water temperature switched between hot and cold. The water was also very hard, which made hair feel dry after washing.
Towels and Bathroom Items
Towels were usually clean, but not always. One dirty towel had to be replaced. The heated towel rack was excellent and helped dry small laundry quickly.
A hairdryer was available, and some rooms had a clothes steamer. For a short stay, the bathroom items were enough. For families, bathroom space may feel limited depending on the room.
Air Conditioning, Windows and Noise
Heating and Cooling
The air conditioning worked well in some rooms. A small instruction guide near the unit was helpful. In those rooms, temperature control was fine.
In other rooms, the HVAC was weak. It could feel too cold at night and too warm during the day. The fan did not move air well, and bathroom smells stayed in the room longer than they should. Temperature control was not always clear.
Windows and Outside Noise
Being able to open the windows was a real advantage. Fresh air helped, especially in a central station area. Once the window was open, however, tram, road and construction noise came in immediately.
With windows closed, high-floor rooms were surprisingly quiet. Lower floors facing the construction site or tram lines were much noisier. For better sleep, I recommend requesting a higher floor.
Amenities and Hotel Facilities
In-room Amenities
The room included a coffee machine, kettle, fridge, paid minibar, large TV, safe, bathrobe and slippers. Coffee and tea in the room were useful. One small bottle of water per day was not enough for two people.
Free apples and water were available near the front desk at times. If you drink a lot of water, buy extra bottles at the station or nearby supermarkets before going up to the room. DM, Lidl and Rewe are close by.
Gym and Bar
The gym was clean and enough for a simple workout. There was a treadmill, basic equipment and separate shower and toilet areas. There is no sauna, spa or wellness area.
The lobby bar works well for a relaxed evening drink. Some bar staff were very friendly and helpful. However, one drink voucher was explained in a rather abrupt way, which was disappointing. The hotel does not really have a full restaurant, so I would eat dinner outside.
Breakfast Review
Breakfast Value
With breakfast included, one booking was around 200 euros per night. The breakfast made the stay feel more complete. It is one of the best reasons to choose this hotel.
There are plenty of places near Munich Central Station for coffee and pastries, but the hotel breakfast is better if you want a proper morning meal before sightseeing or work. The selection is large, the quality is good and the breakfast staff often make the experience better.
Buffet Selection
The buffet included bread, rolls, pastries, cakes, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, omelets, sausages, bacon, baked beans, cheese, ham, fruit, muesli, cereals and yogurt. There were different yogurt options, including soy and lactose-free choices.
Coffee and tea were good, and the loose-leaf tea station was a nice detail. Juices were available from a touch-panel station, though the glasses were small. Fresh egg dishes and the bread selection were strong points. Gluten-free, vegan and halal options were also available.
Breakfast Downsides
The breakfast area was not always well managed when it was busy. There could be waiting at the entrance, and the cooking station became crowded. Sometimes basic items like scrambled eggs or cutlery were missing for a while.
The menu was generous but rather similar from day to day. Vegetarian options existed, but there were not many warm vegetarian choices. Pancakes, waffles and vegetarian live-cooking options were missing. Even with these issues, breakfast is still a major advantage of the hotel.
Staff and Service
Front Desk
The front desk was very good on the right day. Staff gave restaurant and sightseeing tips, arranged early check-in and stored luggage without making it difficult. That made day trips and travel days easier.
There were also weak moments. When room type, key card or service issues came up, the response was not always professional. Some staff were warm and helpful, while others felt distant. At this price level, service should be more consistent.
Breakfast and Bar Staff
The breakfast staff were often the best part of the service. Tea was prepared, special food requests were handled, and families with children were treated warmly. When staff checked tables actively, breakfast felt genuinely pleasant.
The bar staff were also friendly at times. Still, there were moments when drinks took too long or communication was too short. Service quality depends a lot on who is working.
Housekeeping and Room Service
Housekeeping responded quickly when a problem was reported. Bedding was changed after a complaint. At the same time, there were misses: an item left from a previous guest, a bathroom that was not perfectly clean and knocking despite a “Do Not Disturb” sign.
Room service was mixed. On a good day, it was convenient and reasonably priced. On a bad day, food arrived cold. For dinner, I would usually choose a nearby restaurant or station option instead.
Parking and Transport
Parking Near the Hotel
This hotel is better for train travelers than drivers. There are paid parking garages nearby, including options toward Marsstraße and across from the hotel. The walk from the garage to the hotel takes only a few minutes.
Some entrances and exits are narrow, so larger cars need care. Parking is an extra cost, and traffic around the central station is not pleasant. For a Munich city trip, public transport is the better choice.
Public Transport
The public transport access is excellent. U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams, trains and buses are all right outside. Airport access is also easy. For day trips around Bavaria, the location is very practical.
The station and surrounding area have supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants and shops. Water, snacks and room supplies are easy to buy nearby.
Pros and Cons
Pros
The biggest advantage is the location at Munich Central Station. Arrival, departure and day trips are easy. Marienplatz and the Old Town are walkable, and all key transport options are close to the hotel.
Breakfast is another major strength. The selection is large, the food is good and the breakfast team is often very kind. Higher-floor views and modern room amenities also add value.
Cons
The main downsides are room assignment and uneven service. Small rooms, construction views, noise in lower floors, bathroom smells and occasional cleaning issues affected the stay.
The surrounding area is also not for everyone. The station location is practical, but the neighborhood can feel rough at night. If you want a quiet and elegant district, another area may suit you better.
Overall Satisfaction and Rebooking
Overall Rating
NH Collection München Bavaria is a good hotel with clear weaknesses. With a high, quiet room and breakfast included, the stay can be very pleasant. For travelers who need fast access to Munich Central Station, the location is hard to beat.
At about 200 euros per night, I expect more reliable room quality. Cleanliness, bathroom odor, climate control and front desk response should be more consistent. When those parts are good, the hotel feels premium. When they are not, the price feels too high.
Would I Stay Again
I would stay here again, but with clear requests: high floor, quiet side, confirmed room type and payment in euros. I would also book breakfast again.
For Munich travelers arriving by train, staying briefly or planning day trips, NH Collection München Bavaria is a strong option. If you want a large room, a calm neighborhood and flawless service, compare it with hotels in other parts of Munich before booking.
Getting There from Munich Central Station
From the Station to the Hotel
The hotel is directly opposite Munich Central Station. When you come out of the station or take the escalator from the underground level, you only need to cross the street to reach the hotel. With luggage, this is extremely convenient.
From the airport, take the S-Bahn or airport bus to the central station. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, Odeonsplatz and the museum areas are easy to reach by subway, tram, train or on foot. Walking to Marienplatz takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Area and Travel Tip
The area is very convenient, but not beautiful. During the day, it is busy and practical. At night, the station area feels rougher. I recommend using the main streets and not lingering around the station late at night.
For a Munich trip without a car, the location is ideal. Supermarkets, drugstores, restaurants and public transport are all close. It is smart to buy water and snacks before heading up to the room.
