Stay Summary

Central location and mixed room experience

Maison Schiller is a Munich hotel that mainly stands out because of its location near Munich Central Station. It is easy to walk from the station to the hotel, and Karlsplatz, Marienplatz, and the Old Town are also within walking distance. For a city trip built around trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and trams, the location is very convenient. The immediate area, however, is not for everyone. At night, the street is noisy and lively, with late-night shops and adult venues nearby. Anyone expecting a quiet, polished neighborhood will probably be disappointed.

The room experience depends heavily on the room category. The larger double rooms and upper-floor rooms with a small balcony were much more comfortable. Those rooms had enough space, a good bed, a large bathroom, a fridge, a safe, and a coffee machine. The standard rooms were much tighter. In a small single room or compact double room, opening luggage can already make the room feel cramped. Cleanliness was usually good, but not flawless. Hair in the bathroom, stains around the sink, shower leaks, and weak Wi-Fi appeared during some stays. Breakfast was good on better mornings, but refills were slow on weaker mornings. Maison Schiller works best for travelers who want a practical hotel near Munich Central Station and can accept the noise and neighborhood.

Price and Payment

Room rate and breakfast cost

I paid about 125 euros per night without breakfast at Maison Schiller. With breakfast included, the rate came to about 140 euros per night. For a two-night stay with breakfast, I paid around 280 euros. For Munich and for a hotel near the central station, that price is not unusual. It feels fair when the room is one of the larger renovated rooms. In a very small standard room, the same price feels less convincing.

The best value came from the larger double room or an upper-floor room. At around 130 to 140 euros per night, I would book that category again. I would only choose a small single room or compact standard double room for a short overnight stay. Anyone planning to work in the room or open multiple suitcases should avoid the smallest category.

Card payment and pre-authorization

I booked online and paid by card. During the booking process, part of the amount was held as a card pre-authorization. At check-in, the full amount was then charged on site. The pre-authorization was not a final charge, but it stayed visible for a while. After check-out, I had to check whether the blocked amount had been released.

The actual payment at the front desk was simple. My name, passport, and reservation were checked, and the card payment was processed quickly. At check-out, the staff confirmed whether breakfast or any other extra costs were still open. The process was smooth enough, but with this payment setup, it is worth keeping an eye on the card statement.

Check-in and Check-out

Arrival and room assignment

The official check-in time is 3:00 PM. The front desk usually handled check-in quickly. The reservation was found without delay, passport details were checked, and the room card was explained briefly. On some arrivals, I was able to enter the room earlier than the official check-in time. That was especially helpful after arriving in Munich by morning train.

I also received a complimentary upgrade to a larger room once, which made the stay much better. Room assignment, however, was not always consistent. One stay came with a spacious and bright room, while another room was so small that moving around with luggage was difficult. At check-in, it is worth asking for a quiet room, a higher floor, or a larger room.

Departure and luggage

Check-out is at 11:00 AM. The process was simple: return the room card, check for open charges, and leave. When breakfast was included, the amount was checked accordingly. The free water and coffee capsules in the room were not charged separately.

Late check-out was not something I could rely on. Even if it is mentioned as possible, it should be confirmed again directly with the front desk. Luggage storage also depended on the situation and staff member. Sometimes the luggage was stored kindly, while another request felt less welcoming. If you plan to spend more time in Munich after check-out, it is safer to keep the station lockers in mind.

Room Types and Stay Experience

Standard single room

The standard single room is suitable for one person on a short stay. It had a bed, fridge, safe, TV, and coffee machine. The bed was acceptable, and the basic facilities were enough for a short night. The room, however, was very small. Once a suitcase was open, the remaining space became tight. It was not ideal for working on a laptop for a long time.

An inward-facing room was quieter, but it did not get much daylight. If the window faces a shaft or a narrow inner side, the room can feel dark even during the day. For one night, this is acceptable. For a longer stay, I would not choose this category.

Standard double room

The standard double room was tight for two people. Opening two medium or large suitcases was not easy. The bed itself was generally comfortable, but the room size made the stay less relaxed. The fridge, coffee machine, and safe were useful. Having a capsule coffee machine in the room is a nice benefit. There was no kettle, which is worth noting.

The bathroom varied from room to room. Some bathrooms were clean and large enough. In smaller rooms, the shower was cramped. During one stay, water leaked onto the bathroom floor, and there was an unpleasant drain smell. The sink was usable, but stains were not always cleaned properly.

Larger double room and balcony room

The best room was a larger double room on a higher floor. It had enough space, a small balcony, a fridge, a safe, a coffee machine, and a large bathroom. Luggage could be opened without blocking the room, and the stay felt much more comfortable. The mattress was good, the bed was comfortable, and the room felt modern.

The bathroom in this category was also better. A walk-in shower, good water pressure, and stable hot water made it pleasant to use. Towels were changed regularly. This is the room category where Maison Schiller works best. If I book again, I would choose a larger room or a higher-floor room first.

Bed and Bedding

Mattress and bed size

The mattress in the better rooms was comfortably firm. It did not sink too much and gave good support after long days of walking around Munich. In some rooms, however, the mattress was very hard. Anyone who prefers a soft bed should check it right after entering the room.

The bed size was good in larger rooms. In smaller rooms, the bigger issue was not the bed itself but the space around it. Passing between the bed and the wall or furniture can feel tight, especially at night. For a city hotel, this is not unusual, but satisfaction at Maison Schiller depends strongly on the category.

Pillows and duvet

The pillows were not a highlight. Some were lumpy and did not support the neck well. One pillow felt too flat, while two stacked pillows became uncomfortable. For sensitive sleepers, this is a real downside. You can ask for extra pillows, but it may not fully solve the issue.

The duvet was light. In summer, that is fine. On colder nights, it felt too thin. If the heating is not strong enough or the room stays cool near the window, the night can become uncomfortable. The bedding itself was clean and not rough, but the pillows and duvet could be better.

Cleanliness and Smell

Room cleaning

Many rooms were clean, modern, and well kept. In renovated rooms, the furniture, wallpaper, and flooring looked good. Towels were changed, and the beds were made properly. The coffee machine, fridge, and safe were usually in usable condition.

Still, there were clear weak points. Hair in the bathroom, stains around the sink, and marks on the bedding appeared during some stays. One bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly enough. Handling of belongings in the room also needs more care. I would always keep valuables, passport, cash, and new purchases stored safely in this hotel.

Room smell and ventilation

Most rooms smelled neutral. In some inward-facing rooms, however, unpleasant smells came in. One room had a greasy food and waste smell, likely because of the window direction. Another room had a slight smoke smell. This is frustrating because opening the window for long is not always realistic due to street noise.

Anyone sensitive to smells should check the room immediately after check-in. If something is wrong, go to the front desk right away. Staff may help if another room is available, but room changes are difficult when the hotel is full.

Bathroom and Shower

Shower and water pressure

The bathroom was a strong point in the better rooms. A bright bathroom, large shower, stable water pressure, and reliable hot water made the stay comfortable. The walk-in shower was especially convenient. Towels were clean, although not especially thick or luxurious.

In smaller rooms, the bathroom was weaker. The shower was narrow, and sometimes water leaked onto the floor. During one stay, there was a drain issue, and the smell remained afterward. Mold in corners and weak shower seals are not details I expect from a design hotel.

Sink and amenities

The sink was generally usable, but one room had a leaking sink. Stains were not always removed. Amenities were simple: shower gel, hand soap, and a hairdryer. I would not expect more. Once, the shower gel was empty, so bringing personal toiletries is a good idea.

A toothbrush was provided after asking the front desk. That was helpful. Still, Maison Schiller is not a hotel to choose for luxury amenities. It is a practical city hotel with useful basics.

Noise and Room Temperature

Street noise and windows

The location near the central station brings noise. Street-facing rooms can be loud at night. Voices, music, cars, and sirens were audible. Closed windows reduce the noise, but the room does not become completely silent. Sleeping with the window open is not realistic in this area.

Rooms facing the inner side were quieter, but not perfect. Courtyard activity, ventilation noise, and hallway noise still appeared. The walls are not especially thick. Light sleepers should request a higher floor and a room away from the street.

Air conditioning and heating

The air conditioning worked well in some rooms. In summer, the room cooled quickly. However, the unit was loud in some rooms. The bathroom ventilation could also be annoying. At night, you may have to choose between cooling and quiet.

Heating was not always strong enough on colder days. Together with a thin duvet, the room could feel chilly at night. If you travel in winter or early spring, check the temperature soon after check-in. If the room is too cold, contact the front desk immediately.

In-room Facilities

Coffee machine, fridge, and safe

The in-room coffee machine was a real advantage. Coffee capsules were provided, and it was convenient in the morning. The fridge was also useful. Free water was sometimes provided, and drinks from nearby shops could be kept cold. In one room, however, the fridge did not work.

The safe was useful as well. Because of the lively area, I preferred leaving documents and valuables inside it. Before using it, check that it works. In one room, the battery was weak. Access to the elevator and room floors with a key card added a better sense of security.

TV, Wi-Fi, and outlets

The TV had many channels. Smartphone mirroring was possible in some rooms, but it did not always work reliably. Wi-Fi also varied. In some rooms it worked well, while in others the signal dropped or stayed weak. It is fine for basic travel planning, but I would not fully rely on it for work calls.

There were enough outlets. Charging a phone, camera, and power bank was easy. In smaller rooms, however, there was no proper work area. Business travelers should choose a larger room.

Breakfast

Price and food selection

Breakfast cost about 15 euros per person. The buffet included bread, rolls, croissants, pretzels, coffee, cheese, ham, eggs, fruit, yogurt, and hummus. On good mornings, breakfast was pleasant. The Middle Eastern touches and white sausages on request were positive details.

The coffee was decent, and the bread selection worked well for a quick start. It is enough for a city hotel breakfast. Anyone expecting a large luxury hotel buffet will expect too much.

Breakfast room and weak points

The breakfast room is small. When many guests arrive at the same time, seating becomes tight. Tables are close together, and seats are not always immediately available. Refills were inconsistent. On one morning, food and drinks were replenished slowly. Warm juice, stained cutlery, or cloudy glasses hurt the impression.

I would book breakfast again if the price difference is reasonable. If the added cost is high, I would rather eat outside. There are cafés and bakeries nearby, and the Old Town is easy to reach.

Staff and Service

Front desk

The front desk staff were mostly friendly and helpful. Check-in, room changes, early arrival, and directions were handled well. Staff members like Mohammed and Maté stood out because they were attentive and solution-focused.

There were weaker moments too. Some answers were short, and a late check-out request was not handled consistently. Technical problems were addressed, but not always smoothly. Overall, the service is friendly, but the operation could be more consistent.

Breakfast staff and housekeeping

The breakfast staff were warm and attentive on good days. Requests were taken seriously, and missing items were brought when possible. When the breakfast room was full, however, the team seemed stretched. Clearing tables and refilling food took too long.

Housekeeping was mixed. Towels and bedding were generally changed. But hair in the bathroom, stains, and empty shower gel were negative points. After entering the room, I recommend checking the bed, bathroom, fridge, and safe right away.

Parking

Parking near the hotel

Maison Schiller is not a hotel with easy parking directly in front of the door. Arriving by car is possible, but not ideal. Stopping right by the hotel to unload luggage can be difficult because of the street and traffic.

There are paid parking garages nearby. With a hotel discount, I paid about 16 euros per day. In another garage near the station, I paid about 20 euros per day. When the recommended garage was full, another nearby garage cost about 30 euros per day. Anyone coming to Munich by car should include parking costs in the budget.

Better by train and public transport

Maison Schiller is clearly better for train travelers. The central station, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and tram are close. You do not need a car for the city center. The airport is also easy to reach from the central station. If your trip is mainly focused on Munich city, public transport is much easier than driving.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The biggest advantage is the location. The hotel is close to Munich Central Station, and many places can be reached on foot. For a city trip to Munich, this is very practical. Supermarkets, simple restaurants, and snack places are nearby. The room facilities with coffee machine, fridge, and safe are also useful.

The better rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. A large bathroom, good mattress, and friendly front desk make the stay much better. The hotel can offer good value when the room category, price, and location match your expectations.

Cons

The immediate neighborhood is the biggest downside. It is loud, lively, and not especially attractive. At night, you need to accept the central-station atmosphere. Street-facing rooms are not ideal for light sleepers. Sleeping with the window open is difficult.

Room differences are also significant. Very small rooms, narrow showers, leaks, smells, weak Wi-Fi, and inconsistent breakfast quality occurred. Anyone expecting a consistently high-end hotel experience should book carefully.

Overall Satisfaction and Return

Who this hotel suits

Maison Schiller suits travelers who want to stay centrally in Munich, close to the main station, in a modern city hotel. It is practical for short stays, train trips, and sightseeing. If you get a larger room, the stay can be very satisfying.

It is not ideal for travelers who want complete quiet, a beautiful neighborhood, or lots of space. Families with small children, solo travelers returning late, and very noise-sensitive guests should think carefully about the location.

Would I stay again?

I would stay at Maison Schiller again, but only under clear conditions. A larger room, upper floor, non-street-facing window, and a rate around 130 to 140 euros per night would work for me. I would add breakfast only if the price difference is moderate. I would not choose this hotel for a trip with a car.

Before booking, check room size, window direction, breakfast price, parking option, and payment method. Under the right conditions, Maison Schiller can be a practical Munich Central Station hotel.

From Munich Central Station to the Old Town

Walking to the hotel

From Munich Central Station, Maison Schiller is about 5 to 10 minutes on foot. Leave the station from the southern side and walk through the station district toward Schillerstraße. With luggage, the walk is manageable. If arriving very late, I would take a taxi because of the area.

Karlsplatz is also close. Marienplatz takes about 15 minutes on foot. Sendlinger Tor, Theresienwiese, and the Old Town are easy to reach by walking and public transport. For a Munich stay focused on trains, the city center, and sightseeing, the location is the strongest part of Maison Schiller.
