Review Summary

Overall Stay

Hotel FIDELIO is a practical Munich hotel near the central train station, Theresienwiese and the U-Bahn. For Munich, the price was reasonable, especially for a central hotel with breakfast and parking options. The rooms varied quite a lot, but they were generally enough for sleeping, showering and getting around the city. The strongest points were the location, breakfast, reception staff and underground parking. The weaker points were the dated rooms, many stairs inside the hotel, no air conditioning and uneven cleanliness in some rooms.

Who Should Stay Here

This hotel works best for a short Munich trip, an Oktoberfest visit or a stay near Munich Central Station. It is not the right choice for travelers who want a modern hotel with large bathrooms and new room interiors. If location, price, breakfast and public transport matter more than design, Hotel FIDELIO is worth considering.

Room Price and Payment

Price per Night

Hotel FIDELIO was cheaper than many hotels around Munich Central Station. On a regular stay, the price came to about 106 euros per night for two people including one parking space. Breakfast was usually around 12 to 15 euros per person when booked separately. During Oktoberfest or major fair periods, the same type of room can cost much more.

Extra Costs

Parking was charged separately at about 15 euros per night. Breakfast also needed a clear check, because some reservations included it and others did not. At check-out, I recommend checking whether breakfast and parking were added correctly, especially if they were arranged at the hotel.

Payment

The easiest way was to book online first and then confirm the reservation at the reception. Card payment worked well. For the underground parking, the reception provided the access card after payment. It is better to confirm the breakfast status and parking fee during check-in so there is no confusion at check-out.

Check-in and Check-out

Check-in

Check-in was fast. The reservation was found quickly, and the room key was ready without a long wait. Late arrival was also handled well when the hotel was informed in advance. On one stay, a reception staff member waited past 10 p.m. because the train arrived late. Still, I would not treat it like a full 24-hour reception hotel, so late arrivals should contact the hotel first.

Luggage and Room Access

Leaving luggage before getting the room was possible and useful. The uncomfortable part was the number of stairs inside the hotel. Even before reaching the elevator, there were steps. With large suitcases, this was tiring. For guests with mobility issues, this hotel is not the easiest choice.

Check-out

Check-out was usually simple. Returning the room key and checking additional charges did not take long. If breakfast or parking was added separately, it is worth checking the final amount carefully. There was some confusion once about whether breakfast had already been paid for.

Room Types and Room Experience

Single Room

The single room was not large, but it was enough for a short stay. There was a bed, TV, desk and sometimes a small fridge. The space worked for one suitcase and a city trip. Some rooms felt older, but when the cleaning was done well, the room was comfortable enough. In some rooms, the lighting was weak and the power outlets were not in the best places.

Double Room

The double room was fine for two people. The beds were usually comfortable, but they were on the soft side. Guests who prefer a firm mattress may find them too soft. In the better rooms, the bedding was clean and pleasant. The pillows were sometimes too low and too soft. For a few nights, the room was practical, but it was not a luxury room.

Family Room and Quadruple Room

The family rooms and quadruple rooms had more space than expected. Even with several beds, there was still room for luggage. Some upper-floor rooms had a balcony or terrace. For families, the location near the U-Bahn and the central station was very helpful. A sofa bed or extra bed was not as comfortable as a normal bed, so it is better for a short stay.

Courtyard Rooms and Ground-Floor Rooms

Courtyard rooms were much quieter. Even though the hotel is central, sleeping was comfortable in those rooms. Ground-floor rooms or rooms near the garage entrance were less pleasant. Noise, smell and people passing by made them less comfortable. In summer, this mattered even more because there was no air conditioning and opening the window was not always a good option.

Room Cleanliness and Smell

Cleanliness

Cleanliness varied by room. Many rooms were properly cleaned, with tidy beds and usable bathrooms. Other rooms had carpet stains, dust, old furniture and marks on the ceiling or walls. The hotel is not new, and that is very clear. A well-maintained room was acceptable, but a poorly assigned room changed the whole stay.

Bedding and Towels

The bedding was mostly clean and prepared well. The duvets were comfortable in the better rooms. Some pillows and sheets, however, did not feel fresh enough. Towels were provided, but the condition was not always perfect. If something is wrong when entering the room, it is better to ask reception right away.

Room Smell

Some rooms had a neutral smell and were well aired. Others had a musty smell, especially rooms with old carpets and curtains. On hot days, this was more noticeable because there was no air conditioning. The windows could be opened, which helped, but this was not always comfortable in street-facing or ground-floor rooms.

Bed, Lighting and Power Outlets

Mattress

The mattresses were generally soft. For a short stay, they were comfortable enough. For guests with back problems or those who prefer firm beds, they may be too soft. Some beds felt newer, while others felt more worn.

Pillows and Duvets

The duvets were warm and clean in the better rooms. The pillows were often too soft and low. Guests who need a higher pillow should ask reception for an extra one or use a folded towel.

Lighting and Outlets

The room lighting was not very bright in some rooms. Working at the desk was not always comfortable. Power outlets were limited or placed awkwardly. Travelers with a phone, laptop, camera and power bank should bring enough chargers or a small multi-plug.

Air Conditioning, Heating and Windows

No Air Conditioning

One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of air conditioning. In summer, rooms can become very warm, especially on upper floors. Sleeping with the window open may be necessary, but that can bring in street noise. For a hot summer stay, this is an important point to consider.

Heating and Hot Water

In colder months, heating worked well in many rooms. The rooms became warm, and hot water was reliable. Some bathrooms had very strong water pressure and properly hot showers. It is still worth checking heating and shower right after entering the room.

Windows

The windows could be opened. This was useful in a city hotel. Courtyard rooms were especially comfortable because fresh air was possible without much noise. In street-facing rooms or rooms near the garage entrance, opening the window was less pleasant.

Bathroom and Toilet

Bathroom Size

The bathrooms were small. The sink, toilet and shower were all there, but space was limited. For one person, it worked. For more than one guest getting ready in the morning, it felt tight. Some rooms had a bathtub, while others had a simple shower.

Water Pressure and Temperature

Water pressure was usually good. The shower had a strong stream, and the water became hot quickly. This was one of the better parts of the room. In a few rooms, the shower head needed replacement, likely because of hard water.

Sink, Towels and Amenities

The sink area had little space for personal items. Towels were provided. Amenities were basic: soap, shower product and a hairdryer. The hairdryer was weak in some rooms. It is better to bring a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and personal care products.

Bathroom Cleanliness

Bathroom cleanliness was not always perfect. Many bathrooms were acceptable, but some needed better care. Old doors, worn surfaces, marks and small defects were noticeable. There was even a small pest issue in one bathroom. If the bathroom is not clean enough, it is better to ask for a different room immediately.

Noise and Soundproofing

Outside Noise

Many rooms were quiet despite the central location, especially those facing the courtyard. With the window closed, traffic noise was not a major issue. During Oktoberfest or busy evenings, voices and party noise could be heard outside. This usually became quieter later at night.

Hallway Noise

When the hotel was full, hallway noise was noticeable. Doors, conversations and late guests could be heard inside the room. Light sleepers should ask for a room away from the elevator and stairs.

Elevator and Stairs

The elevator was small, and the hotel had many stairs. With large luggage, this was inconvenient. There was a side entrance that avoided some stairs, but this was not always explained clearly at check-in.

Breakfast

Price and Selection

Breakfast was around 12 to 15 euros per person depending on the booking. The selection was good for a hotel of this size. There were bread rolls, bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, fruit, jam, butter, cereal, coffee, tea and juice. Eggs were also available on some mornings.

Taste and Quality

Breakfast was generally solid and often tasty. It was not a luxury buffet, but it was enough before a day in Munich. Bread, coffee, cheese, ham and yogurt made it a useful breakfast. If breakfast is included in the room rate, it is worth taking.

Breakfast Room

The breakfast room was not large. When many guests arrived at the same time, seating was tight. Clearing used dishes sometimes took too long, and the staff looked busy. Food was usually replenished, but the selection was not always as strong near the end of breakfast time.

Breakfast Issues

Not every breakfast was equally good. Some cups or glasses were not clean enough, and fruit did not always seem fresh. The service in the breakfast room could also be unfriendly at times. Guests who care a lot about breakfast may also want to compare nearby cafés.

Staff and Service

Reception

The reception staff were mostly friendly, helpful and easy to deal with. Questions about transport, the U-Bahn and nearby restaurants were answered well. Late arrivals and group stays were handled nicely. The reception was one of the stronger parts of the hotel.

Breakfast Staff

Breakfast service was less consistent. Some staff members were friendly, while others seemed stressed or inattentive. This was more noticeable when the breakfast room was full.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping was not always at the same level. Good rooms were clean and well prepared. Other rooms had dust, stains, bathrooms that needed more work or towels that were not ideal. Complaints should be made directly at reception.

Problem Handling

Small issues were sometimes handled quickly. The reception helped with room questions and simple technical problems. Lost-item support and explanations about the side entrance and stairs were less reliable. Clearer communication would improve the stay.

Parking

Underground Parking

The hotel’s underground parking was a strong advantage. Parking in central Munich can be expensive and stressful. Here, parking cost about 15 euros per night, which was fair for the location. A reservation in advance is recommended.

Car Elevator

The garage is reached by a car elevator. It is practical but narrow. A normal car fits, but larger vehicles require care. Drivers who dislike tight garages should ask for details before arrival.

Better to Leave the Car Parked

For most Munich city trips, there is no need to use the car after parking it. The U-Bahn, tram and central station are close. It is easier to leave the car in the garage and use public transport.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The best parts are location, price, breakfast, friendly reception and underground parking. The closeness to Theresienwiese is excellent for Oktoberfest visitors. Munich Central Station is also within walking distance. Courtyard rooms are quiet, and many beds are comfortable.

Cons

The main downsides are dated rooms, no air conditioning, many stairs and uneven cleanliness. Some rooms need renovation. Bathrooms are small and not always perfectly maintained. In summer, rooms can get very warm. Breakfast service and housekeeping are not always consistent.

Room Choice

I recommend asking for an upper-floor room facing the courtyard. I would avoid ground-floor rooms or rooms near the garage entrance. When booking, it is worth requesting a quiet and renovated room.

Overall Satisfaction and Would I Stay Again

Overall Opinion

Hotel FIDELIO is not a modern design hotel. It is a simple, central hotel with good value for Munich. It offers location, breakfast, parking and mostly friendly service. Travelers expecting perfect rooms and new bathrooms should choose another hotel.

Would I Book Again

For a short Munich stay or a visit to Theresienwiese, I would book this hotel again. In summer, I would be more careful because of the lack of air conditioning. For a future stay, I would confirm a quiet courtyard room, an upper floor, breakfast status and parking reservation in advance.

Location

From Munich Central Station and Theresienwiese

Hotel FIDELIO is southwest of Munich Central Station. Walking from the station takes about 10 minutes. With heavy luggage, the U-Bahn or tram is easier. From Theresienwiese U-Bahn station, the hotel is only a few minutes on foot, which is very convenient for Oktoberfest. St. Paul’s Church is a useful landmark nearby. Around the hotel, there are restaurants, bars, supermarkets and small shops. Marienplatz can be reached on foot, but the U-Bahn is faster. For a Munich city trip, the location is one of the main reasons to choose this hotel.
