Hotel Atlanta Munich Review Summary
Hotel Atlanta is the kind of Munich hotel I choose mainly for location and price. It sits close to Sendlinger Tor, within easy walking distance of Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt, so it works well for a short city break, a business stop, or a trip where most of the day is spent outside. The hotel itself is old, simple, and inconsistent. I had clean, quiet, good-value rooms here, but I also had rooms with worn furniture, poor soundproofing, old bathrooms, limited amenities, and weak maintenance. For pricing, I paid €61 for one night with breakfast, €100 for one night without breakfast, and €270 for three nights in a room with private shower and toilet. Breakfast cost me €8 per person on one stay. For central Munich, those prices are fair, but this is not a modern comfort hotel. There is no hotel parking, and nearby parking garages cost me €36 to €40 per night. My overall rating is mixed: Hotel Atlanta is worth considering when the priority is staying central at a lower price, but I do not recommend it for travelers expecting modern rooms, quiet nights, strong service, or easy parking.
Hotel Atlanta Check-in, Check-out, and Payment
Arrival and Reception
Check-in at Hotel Atlanta was usually quick. The staff checked the booking and passport without making me wait long, and several receptionists were friendly and helpful. The first arrival can still feel a little awkward. The entrance is easy to miss, and reception is not right at street level. You have to go into the older building and up to the reception area, which is inconvenient with large luggage. There is an elevator, but I would not fully rely on it. During different stays it was unavailable at certain hours, not properly lit, or only useful in the main building. Late arrival is the main issue. The front desk closes around 10 PM. On one late arrival, I had been told to use an outside key safe, but the key safe was empty and nobody answered the phone. I had to find another hotel late at night. The unused night was discounted the next day, but the experience was stressful. I recommend booking this hotel for late arrival only when the key handover is confirmed clearly in writing.
Payment and Booking Conditions
I usually booked online and paid at the hotel. Card payment was the easiest option. Cash payment caused confusion once, so I recommend preparing a card. I once received one price verbally, €70, then later was told the room was €90. Bed type also needs to be checked carefully. I booked a double bed but was given two single beds, and a double bed was offered for an extra €40. Cancellation rules were strict. A short-notice cancellation required 80 percent of the booking amount, and one change request led to a €185 cancellation cost. Hotel Atlanta can be a good deal, but only when your travel dates are firm.
Check-out and Extra Charges
Check-out was usually simple. I returned the key, checked whether anything was still open, and left. Still, the bill should be checked carefully. Breakfast was not always included. Once, breakfast was charged after eating at €16 for two people, and that had not been clear enough beforehand. The smoking policy was also strongly stated, with a possible charge of up to €200. At check-in, I recommend asking directly whether breakfast, taxes, and any extras are included.
Hotel Atlanta Room Review by Room Type
Rooms with Private Bathroom
The rooms with a private bathroom are the best option at Hotel Atlanta. A larger room with shower and toilet was comfortable enough for a short Munich stay, and a four-person room gave enough space for luggage and beds. These rooms are still simple and old-fashioned, but they are more convenient than the shared-toilet rooms. Bed quality changed a lot by room. In some rooms, the mattress was comfortable, the pillow height was fine, and the bedding was clean. In other rooms, the mattress was too hard or worn down, and the bed squeaked every time I moved. I could even hear beds from nearby rooms on one stay. Anyone with back problems should not expect hotel-chain bedding standards here.
Rooms with Shower and Sink but Shared Toilet
Some rooms have a shower and sink inside the room, but the toilet is in the hallway. This is important to check before booking. The shared toilet was clean on some stays, but walking through the corridor at night was inconvenient. In one room, the toilet was not right next door but farther down the hall through several doors. For one cheap night it can be manageable, but for several nights I prefer a private bathroom. The shower inside the room was convenient, but the shower curtain was thin and kept sticking to my body while showering. Water pressure was usually fine, and hot water was often steady. Still, I had one night when hot water was not available after around 9:30 PM, and I also experienced a cold shower before.
Street-Facing Rooms and Rooms Near Reception
Street-facing rooms are convenient but noisy, especially on weekends. I heard people outside, sirens, and noise from nearby rooms late at night. The doors and walls are thin. A room next to reception was spacious, but it was not quiet. Conversations, doors, and movement near the front desk came through clearly. Rooms facing the inner area or on higher floors were much better for sleep. When booking Hotel Atlanta, I recommend asking for a quiet room away from the pedestrian street and away from reception.
Hotel Atlanta Room Cleanliness, Bedding, Heating, and Amenities
Cleanliness and Room Smell
Cleanliness at Hotel Atlanta varied a lot. Several rooms were clean, tidy, and serviced daily. Towels were fresh, bedding was clean, and the cleaning staff were friendly. But I also had weak stays. There was dust under the bed and on top of the wardrobe, and I found belongings from a previous guest in one room. In the worst room, there were food leftovers and empty beer bottles, and the bed had not been properly prepared. The staircase and corridors were old and sometimes smelled unpleasant. One wardrobe smelled musty, and one room smelled strongly of paint. Around one window, pigeon dirt caused a bad smell. This is my biggest issue with the hotel: a good room can be fine, but the differences between rooms are too large.
Furniture, Doors, and Lighting
The furniture is old and basic. The wooden style can feel charming if you like small old hotels, but some furniture was clearly worn. I had rooms with weak hinges, damaged mirrors, overpainted sockets, marked walls, and doors that needed force to close. The room doors are thin, so corridor noise comes through. In one small room, the desk was placed so tightly that the door only opened just enough to pass. Some rooms had enough sockets, while others felt outdated electrically. For charging a phone and laptop it was fine, but it is not a strong work setup.
Heating, No Air Conditioning, Wi-Fi, and Extras
There is no air conditioning. In summer, the room became hot, and opening the window brought in street noise. I was given a fan once, but it did not work. Heating was good in some rooms and weak in others. Wi-Fi also depended on the room. In some rooms it was stable, while in higher rooms the signal was weak and dropped often. Basic amenities included towels, toilet paper, and simple soap. Shampoo was not always properly supplied; once there was only a small gel packet. I did not have a safe in the room. A hairdryer was not always in the bathroom, but reception could lend one. I did not have a kettle.
Hotel Atlanta Bathroom and Toilet Experience
Bathroom Condition
Private bathrooms are convenient but old. Water pressure was usually good, and hot water often lasted well. Still, there were visible problems. I had a damaged sink, a damaged bathtub, loose floor tiles, and stained bathroom walls in different rooms. One bathroom had mold marks. The shower space was small, the shower curtain was annoying, and several bathrooms need renovation. Anyone expecting a bright modern bathroom will be disappointed.
Shared Toilets
The shared toilets were sometimes clean and sometimes only acceptable. For one night at a low price, they can work. For multiple nights, I would not choose them again. Walking down the corridor at night is inconvenient, and in an old building with thin doors, you hear everything and also feel like you are making noise yourself. When booking, it is important to check for “private bathroom,” not just “shower in room.”
Hotel Atlanta Breakfast Review
Price and Food
Breakfast at Hotel Atlanta is small but usable. I paid €8 per person on one stay. On another stay, €61 covered one night with breakfast included. The food was mainly bread, coffee, yogurt, cheese, ham, cereal, some fruit, and simple cold items. Hot food was limited. If you expect a large hotel buffet with eggs, hot dishes, and many choices, it will feel too basic. If you just want a simple breakfast before walking around Munich, it works.
Breakfast Room and Weak Points
The breakfast room is small and cozy. During quiet hours it is pleasant, but at busy times the seating is limited. Some mornings felt nicely prepared, while others were average. The main issue is communication. If breakfast is not included, that needs to be clear before eating. I was once charged €16 for two people after breakfast. There are many bakeries and cafes nearby, so travelers who want a better breakfast can easily eat outside the hotel.
Hotel Atlanta Service, Staff, and Housekeeping
Reception Staff
The reception staff were often friendly. I received help with directions, a hairdryer, room questions, and parking information. But the service was not always reliable. One confirmed booking was unavailable when I arrived, without prior notice. That is especially frustrating on a business trip. Late-arrival messages and booking changes were not always handled in a helpful tone. The hotel feels personal when the right staff member is there, but when something goes wrong, the service can feel unprofessional.
Breakfast Staff and Housekeeping
At breakfast, staff were not intrusive. Plates were cleared, food was replenished, and the atmosphere was calm. Housekeeping staff were friendly, but timing was inconsistent. On one stay, cleaning came very early; on another, it happened around 2 PM, exactly when I wanted to rest in the room. I asked for the room to be cleaned before 1 PM once, but it was not done. A “Do Not Disturb” sign was not always available, which made resting in the room less comfortable.
Hotel Atlanta Pros, Cons, and Would I Stay Again
Pros
The strongest advantages are location and price. Sleeping this close to Sendlinger Tor, Marienplatz, and the old town at this price is not easy in Munich. The U-Bahn is close, the shopping streets are right nearby, and most central sights are walkable. If you receive a good room, it can be clean, bright, quiet enough, and perfectly fine for a short stay. Breakfast can be convenient, and many staff members are friendly. For travelers who mainly need a central place to sleep, Hotel Atlanta has value.
Cons
The drawbacks are clear. The building is old, room quality changes too much, bathrooms need renovation, and soundproofing is weak. There is no air conditioning, no hotel parking, and late arrival can be risky. Rooms with shared toilets are not for everyone. Cleanliness and service were not always reliable. I would stay at Hotel Atlanta again when the price is low, I travel alone or as a couple, and I only need a central bed for the night. For a quiet rest-focused stay, lots of luggage, late arrival, or high expectations for bed and bathroom quality, I recommend choosing another hotel.
Hotel Atlanta Location and Transport
Hotel Atlanta is a few minutes on foot from Sendlinger Tor. From Sendlinger Tor U-Bahn station, you walk toward the pedestrian shopping street and reach the hotel quickly. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, Asam Church, shopping streets, restaurants, and cafes are all easy to reach on foot. From Munich Central Station, the easiest option is to take the U-Bahn or tram to Sendlinger Tor; with light luggage, walking is also possible. By car, the location is inconvenient. The hotel is in a pedestrian area, so you cannot pull up directly in front to unload bags. Nearby parking garages are a few minutes away and cost me €36 to €40 per night. With luggage, the walk from the garage is about 300 meters. For Hotel Atlanta, I recommend arriving by public transport.
