Quick Summary of the Stay

Holiday Inn Munich - Leuchtenbergring is a practical Munich hotel near Leuchtenbergring Station. It is not in the middle of the Old Town, but it works very well for public transport, airport access, Munich Central Station, and Marienplatz. The rooms were mostly clean and comfortable, but the quality changed quite a lot depending on the room. Breakfast was one of the better parts of the stay, while parking, cleaning consistency, room temperature, and technical issues were the main weak points. I paid 126 euros per night for a Premium room package with breakfast and a welcome drink. A Queen Room with courtyard view was 116 euros per night. Breakfast cost 24 euros per person when booked separately. Parking cost me 22 euros per day on one stay and 24 euros per day on another stay. I would stay again, but I would book a courtyard-facing room and check the room carefully right after arrival.

Check-in and Check-out

Arrival and Waiting Time

Check-in was smooth on good days. The front desk checked my passport and reservation, gave me the room card, and explained breakfast, parking, elevators, and the public transport options. Some staff members were genuinely helpful, especially when I asked about getting to the airport or choosing the right train. It was not perfect every time. When I asked for early check-in, I was told to come back at 3 PM. That was reasonable, but when I returned at 3 PM, the room was still not ready. On one stay, I waited almost two and a half hours before getting into the room. There were also moments when the hotel system did not show my package correctly, so I had to show the booking confirmation for breakfast and the welcome drink.

Check-out and Extra Charges

Check-out was set at 11 AM. When there were no open issues, it was quick. The main thing to watch is the final bill. Parking, breakfast, and package benefits should be checked before leaving. Once I was told at check-in that parking was already handled, but at check-out I still had to pay 22 euros. On another stay, the room key stopped working before I had fully checked out, so I had to go back to the front desk several times. Cleaning staff also knocked before the official check-out time, which made the final part of the stay feel rushed.

Price and Payment

Room Rates

The Premium room package with breakfast and a welcome drink cost 126 euros per night. The Queen Room with courtyard view was 116 euros per night. For Munich, that price is fair when the room is clean and the package is honored without discussion. The suite had much more space and a Nespresso machine, but it was simple rather than luxurious. For a weekend stay, business trip, or exhibition visit, the value is good if expectations are realistic.

Payment Method

I booked online and paid by card at the hotel. Card payment itself was easy. The less convenient parts were invoices, parking, and package confirmation. For one package booking, I had to show the email confirmation before the welcome drink was accepted. If you book a rate with breakfast, a drink, or IHG benefits, keep the confirmation ready on your phone. Parking payment was also not always as simple as it should be. I prefer paying all hotel-related charges at check-in or check-out, but the parking process sometimes required extra steps.

Room Types and Room Experience

Standard Room and Queen Room

The Standard rooms are fine for one person or two people on a short stay, but they feel tight for three guests. Once luggage is open, the free space becomes limited. The rooms usually include a desk, TV, kettle, tea, coffee, safe, iron, and ironing board. The Queen Room with courtyard view was much better for sleeping because it was quieter. Rooms facing the road are more exposed to traffic, tram, train, and bus noise. Not every room has a fridge. Even in a higher category, I had a room without one, and the front desk confirmed that fridges are not available in all rooms.

Premium Room and Suite

The Premium room was clean and decent, but the name creates higher expectations than the room actually delivers. At 126 euros per night with breakfast and a welcome drink included, the package makes sense. Judged only by the room, it is not especially impressive. The suite was more comfortable because it had more space, better seating, and a Nespresso machine. It worked better for a longer stay. Still, the style was simple and businesslike. I also heard water pipe noise in the suite from time to time.

Courtyard-Facing Rooms

The courtyard-facing rooms are the best choice here. They are much quieter than the road-facing rooms, and I slept better there. If sleep quality matters, I recommend requesting a quiet courtyard room at the time of booking and confirming it again at check-in.

Cleanliness, Bed, and Bedding

Room Cleaning and Smell

Many rooms were clean, bright, and ready when I arrived. On good stays, the bathroom, bed, desk, and towels were all in proper condition. Water, tea, and coffee were also replenished on some stays. The problem is consistency. One room had a toilet that was not properly cleaned. Another had dust balls and cracker crumbs on the floor. On one cleaning day, towels were replaced but toilet paper was not restocked. Room smell also varied. Some rooms were fresh, while one had a strong unpleasant smell that only improved after turning on the air conditioning and opening the window. I also had a bathroom with a cigarette smell and another room where condensation built up heavily on the windows.

Bed and Pillows

The mattresses were usually comfortable and on the firmer side. I slept well in the better rooms. The bedding was fresh on most stays, and the room felt comfortable when the air conditioning and blackout curtains worked well. The pillows were sometimes too hard for me. One stay had disappointing bedding, and I had a serious hygiene issue with the bed area. Since then, I check the sheets, pillows, and mattress edges immediately after entering the room. I recommend doing that before unpacking.

Room Facilities, Heating, and Air Conditioning

Desk, Lighting, and Equipment

The room setup works for a business stay. The desk is enough for a laptop, and the kettle, safe, TV, iron, and ironing board are useful. Lighting is warm and pleasant for resting, but not every room is bright enough for work. In one room, the TV angle was inconvenient because it was only easy to watch from one side of the bed. In another room, the TV did not work at all. I also had issues with a safe, a remote control, and a flickering bathroom light.

Temperature Control

Temperature control is one of the weaker points of this hotel. The air conditioning worked well in some rooms, but rooms with strong morning sun heated up quickly. In a few rooms, the AC did not cool enough. One stay felt too warm, another felt too cold. The bathroom floor heating was nice in winter, but some bathrooms became too warm. Hot water was not reliable every time. On one stay, there was no hot water at night and still no hot water by check-out the next day. That is a major downside for a hotel in this price range.

Bathroom and Toilet

Shower and Water Pressure

The bathrooms are modern in many rooms. In the better rooms, water pressure was strong, hot water came quickly, and the shower area was comfortable. Heated bathroom flooring was a nice detail during cold weather. There was enough space around the sink for basic toiletries. Still, I had bathroom issues on some stays: a shower head that did not work properly, water leaking outside the shower area, loud drain noises, and ventilation problems.

Towels and Amenities

Towels were usually clean, but not always complete. One double room had only one large bath towel. Another time, I received a worn-out towel. Basic shampoo and body wash were provided, but I did not find hair conditioner, body lotion, cotton swabs, or similar extras. For a short stay, the basics are enough. For a longer stay, I recommend bringing your own conditioner and lotion.

Noise and Sleep Quality

Road-Facing Rooms

Road-facing rooms are not silent. The windows block some noise, but traffic, train, tram, and bus sounds remain noticeable. Room doors also close loudly, so hallway noise can be heard when people come back late. One evening, someone knocked loudly on my door, which was disturbing in an unfamiliar hotel.

Courtyard Rooms

The courtyard rooms were much better for sleep. They were quieter and more comfortable at night. The blackout curtains do not block every bit of light, but they are good enough for most people. If you are sensitive to light, bring an eye mask. For this hotel, room direction matters more than room name.

Breakfast and Food

Breakfast Price and Selection

Breakfast cost 24 euros per person when booked separately. The buffet included bread, rolls, croissants, cheese, ham, eggs, warm dishes, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, and sweet items. Omelets were available on request, and there were gluten-free bakery items as well. The selection was good enough for a proper breakfast. When the hotel was full, the coffee machines had lines and the seating area became crowded.

Breakfast Service

Breakfast service was one of the best parts of the hotel. One older male staff member stood out because he cleared tables quickly, helped guests, and created a friendly morning atmosphere. Not every breakfast moment was perfect, especially when the room was full and table seating became limited. Overall, breakfast is still a strength. For 24 euros, I would appreciate more fish, olives, onions, and antipasti, but the main selection is good.

Bar and Dinner

The bar was pleasant on some evenings, but it closed earlier than expected on another stay. Pizza and snacks were available in the bar area. The mango coconut soup with grilled shrimp was very good, while the schnitzel and fries were just okay. If you arrive late, the nearby supermarket, bakery, and restaurants are useful.

Parking

Underground Garage

The underground garage is modern, clean, and spacious. Even larger cars fit comfortably. When parking is correctly registered, entry and exit with the hotel card are convenient. I recommend requesting parking at the time of booking. An exit code may be needed, and without clear confirmation the process can become annoying.

Parking Fee and Payment

I paid 22 euros per day for parking on one stay and 24 euros per day on another stay. For Munich, that is acceptable, but the payment process was not ideal. A good hotel should allow parking fees to be paid together with the room bill at check-in or check-out. Extra website input after the stay is unnecessary work. For a Munich sightseeing trip, public transport is easier than driving.

Staff and Service

Front Desk

The front desk can be very good. Some staff members were professional, friendly, and helpful with airport directions, taxi calls, booking questions, and room requests. One staff member personally brought extra bedding and a pillow instead of making me wait. At the same time, there were situations where I had to explain the same issue several times. Invoice handling, package benefits, welcome points, and phone response need improvement.

Breakfast and Housekeeping Staff

Breakfast staff were mostly friendly and attentive. Housekeeping worked well when cleaning was properly requested and completed. Since room cleaning is done on request, it is important to tell the front desk clearly. It was frustrating when a requested cleaning did not happen. It was also uncomfortable when housekeeping tried to enter before check-out time.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The biggest advantages are the S-Bahn location, good breakfast, quiet courtyard rooms, and spacious underground parking. Good rooms are clean, functional, and comfortable. The nearby supermarket, drugstore, bakery, and restaurants make the stay easier. It is a useful hotel for business trips, exhibitions, airport access, and Munich city visits by public transport.

Cons

The main weaknesses are inconsistent room quality, occasional cleaning problems, technical defects, unreliable temperature control, hot water issues, and a complicated parking process. Road-facing rooms are noisy. Some rooms are small, and not every room has a fridge. Check the room immediately after arrival.

Overall Satisfaction and Would I Stay Again?

Who Should Book This Hotel

This hotel fits travelers who value transport access more than an Old Town address. It works well for business travelers, short stays, exhibition visitors, and airport connections. Families can also stay here, but a Standard room for three people feels tight. I recommend booking a courtyard-facing room, keeping the booking confirmation ready, and checking the bed, bathroom, TV, heating, and AC as soon as you enter.

Would I Return?

I would stay again, but only at the right price and with a courtyard-facing room. At 116 euros for a quiet Queen Room or 126 euros for a package with breakfast, it is a good Munich hotel option. If prices are much higher or only road-facing rooms are left, I recommend comparing other hotels before booking.

Location and Nearby Transport

Holiday Inn Munich - Leuchtenbergring is a few minutes on foot from Leuchtenbergring Station. From there, it is easy to reach Marienplatz, Munich Central Station, and Munich Airport. S8 and S1 are especially useful for airport travel. Tram 19 is also nearby and works well for getting toward the Old Town. Depending on the exit, the walk to the station may pass through a tunnel, which feels dark late at night. Right next to the hotel there are useful shops such as a supermarket, dm, an electronics store, a bakery, and casual restaurants. This is not a hotel directly beside Munich’s main tourist squares, but it is a strong base for travelers using public transport.
