Concorde stay at a glance

My stays took place at the end of March 2024 for a three-day trip, in early January 2026 for two nights, and around February 14, 2026 for one night. Concorde is well placed for Marienplatz, Hofbräuhaus, Viktualienmarkt, and Isartor station. Most central Munich sights can be reached on foot, while the street outside the hotel remains relatively quiet. Breakfast and reception service were usually strong, but room size, mattresses, heating, air conditioning, and soundproofing varied considerably. The Valentine’s weekend stay cost about €300 for one night with breakfast. At that rate, the small bathroom and worn condition of the room were disappointing. I would stay again at a reasonable price in an upper-floor Superior room or suite, but travelers expecting spacious modern rooms should check the room category, floor, and square footage carefully.

Concorde booking, price, and check-in

Room rate and payment

I booked online and paid for the room by card. The most expensive stay was over Valentine’s weekend, when one night with breakfast cost about €300. A major event was taking place in Munich at the time, but the room still felt overpriced for its size and condition. Breakfast was included in the room rate, so there was no separate breakfast charge. The hotel garage cost an additional €25 per night and was charged to my card at check-out.

Arrival and room assignment

The standard check-in time was 3:00 p.m. On one visit I arrived shortly after noon and received a room immediately because it had already been cleaned. When a room was not ready, reception stored my luggage without any problem. Passport and reservation checks were quick, and I did not have to wait long.

Most reception employees were friendly, professional, and comfortable speaking English. Dominic was particularly helpful with restaurant suggestions, local transport, and room issues. On one stay, however, the welcome was cold and businesslike. After a long journey, it did not create a good first impression.

Check-out and extra charges

Check-out involved returning the key and confirming minibar use, parking, and any extra guest charges. It only took a few minutes, and I could leave my luggage at the hotel afterward. On one booking, I was told that a receipt for an additional guest fee would be emailed, but it never arrived. Anyone needing an invoice for work expenses should request a printed copy before leaving.

Concorde room types

Standard room

The Standard room was small. Once two suitcases were open, there was very little space left to walk around. The gaps between the bed, desk, and wardrobe were narrow, and the wardrobe only held a few coats and small bags.

One Standard room was in the basement level. Its window faced a light well, and the elevator did not reach that floor, so I had to carry luggage down the stairs. When a reservation mentions a city view, I recommend checking the floor and outlook as soon as the key is handed over.

The room still had the essentials: a small desk, television, minibar, kettle, climate controls, and a private bathroom. It was adequate for a short city break when the room was mainly used for sleeping. It was less suitable for working or spending long periods indoors.

Superior room

The Superior room offered slightly more luggage space and better storage. A courtyard-facing room was quiet with the windows closed and worked well for two people. Even after an upgrade, however, one Superior room was smaller than expected, particularly the bathroom. It is worth checking the listed floor area instead of relying only on the room category name.

Family room and suite

The upper-floor suite was much more comfortable. It had room for a sofa bed, several wardrobes, and two bathrooms. For a family with two children, it was far more practical than a small Standard room. Some suites also had a pleasant view across the rooftops of Munich’s old town.

The elevator only went as far as the fifth floor for one sixth-floor suite, leaving one final flight of stairs. Families with a stroller or heavy luggage should confirm elevator access before booking.

Concorde beds and cleanliness

Mattress, pillows, and bedding

Bed quality varied more than any other feature. In a renovated room, the mattress was supportive and comfortable, and the sheets felt soft. In an older room, the mattress was so soft that my body sank deeply into it. A third bed in a triple room was extremely firm, while two single beds pushed together moved apart during the night.

The pillows were low and soft. Guests who prefer a high or firm pillow should ask reception for another option. The single duvets were narrow and did not cover the full width of the bed. In one older room, the duvet filling had formed hard lumps and the bedding did not smell freshly cleaned. I asked for it to be replaced.

Cleaning and room odor

Most rooms were clean. Floors, desks, and bathrooms were serviced daily, while fresh towels, tea, and coffee were replenished. Housekeeping also brought extra towels and toilet paper promptly when asked.

One older room had a strong damp, dusty smell mixed with the odor of old furniture. Opening the window did not solve it, so I requested a room change. Guests with allergies may find this type of room difficult. Visible wear included a badly scratched bathroom door and peeling material on a bed headboard.

Desk, lighting, and power outlets

The desk had enough space for one laptop, but it became crowded once a bag and papers were added. The chair was acceptable for checking email, not for a full working day. Several small lamps provided useful evening lighting. Power outlets were not always located beside the bed, so a long charging cable was helpful.

Concorde bathroom and amenities

Shower, water pressure, and hot water

Most bathrooms were extremely small. There was little room between the toilet, sink, and shower, and two people could not use the space comfortably at the same time. Some rooms had a fixed shower over the bathtub, while others had a narrow shower cubicle.

Water pressure was strong, and hot water arrived quickly. The temperature remained stable even during busy morning periods. Shower areas and bathtubs were generally clean. Older sealant, worn finishes, and the heavily scratched door in one room reduced the overall impression. Counter space around the sink ranged from adequate to almost nonexistent.

Towels and toiletries

Towels were replaced daily, but some rooms only had two large towels for two guests. Several towels were thin and slightly rough. Shampoo and body wash were supplied, although the quality was basic. Slippers were available in some rooms but not others.

The room included a kettle, tea, and two sachets of instant coffee. Complimentary bottled water was not provided. Many minibars were well stocked, but on one stay I found expired beer, old spirits, and a chocolate bar that had already been opened. I recommend checking minibar items and the price list before using them. A safe was not available in every room.

Concorde heating, air conditioning, and noise

Room temperature

Air conditioning worked very well in some rooms. In others, the temperature would not fall below about 21°C regardless of the setting. The room remained warm and stuffy at night, which affected sleep. During a cold-weather stay, the heating only worked partially and did not warm the entire room properly.

The windows could be opened, but nearby construction and evening street noise made it difficult to leave them open for long. Closing the windows reduced outside noise significantly. The blinds did not block enough light, so morning sunlight entered the room early.

Hallway and outside noise

Courtyard-facing rooms were peaceful at night. In older parts of the hotel, I could hear conversations next door, toilets flushing, footsteps above, and doors closing in the hallway. Guests leaving early with wheeled luggage were also easy to hear. On one morning, housekeeping staff spoke loudly and repeatedly allowed doors to slam from around 8:00 a.m.

Because the hotel is close to Hofbräuhaus, distant music and voices could occasionally be heard at night. Construction noise in the surrounding area also made opening the window impractical on some days. I recommend requesting a high-floor courtyard room for the best chance of a quiet stay.

Wi-Fi and elevator

Wi-Fi was the weakest technical feature. The connection was slow in several rooms, and one speed test produced a result below 10 Mbps. Mobile data reception was also weak in parts of the building, making video calls and large downloads difficult. Business travelers with important online meetings should have a backup connection.

The elevator was small. Two people with large suitcases almost filled it. During breakfast and check-out periods, I sometimes had to wait for several trips. Some basement and top-floor rooms also required using stairs for the final section.

Concorde breakfast and staff

Breakfast selection

Breakfast was included in my room rates. The buffet generally operated from around 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. It included bread, rolls, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, eggs, warm dishes, cereal, muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit, fruit salad, juice, and coffee. Plant-based milk was available on request.

On the best mornings, the bread and fruit were fresh, hot dishes were replenished regularly, and coffee arrived quickly. At peak times, tables became scarce and some items took longer to refill. During one stay, the selection was noticeably limited and the cheese and warm dishes were average. I also found packaged bread past its date on one occasion. Arriving before 7:30 a.m. gave me the widest choice and a quieter dining room.

Reception, breakfast staff, and housekeeping

Reception staff were usually very helpful. Early check-in, luggage storage, umbrella loans, parking assistance, and city information were handled efficiently. Dominic and Anita were especially attentive and gave useful local advice. Communication in English was easy.

Breakfast staff normally cleared plates promptly and brought coffee or tea without delay. One employee was abrupt and unfriendly on a particular morning. Housekeeping cleaned the rooms carefully, although staff conversations and door noise in the corridor should be reduced during early hours.

Concorde parking and overall verdict

Underground garage

The hotel has its own underground garage, reached by a vehicle elevator. It is best suited to small cars. The entrance, ramps, and parking bays are all narrow. Even a compact car required several adjustments. Parking a BMW 5 Series was difficult, and a midsize SUV was not a practical fit.

Parking cost €25 per night. Anyone arriving in a large vehicle should use a public garage near Hofbräuhaus and walk to the hotel. A car is not necessary for most old-town sightseeing.

Main advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage is the location. Marienplatz, Hofbräuhaus, Viktualienmarkt, and Maximilianstraße are all within walking distance. Breakfast is usually varied, reception staff are easy to approach, and most rooms are cleaned well. A well-maintained Superior room or suite can also work well for families.

The main problem is inconsistency between rooms. Small Standard rooms, tiny bathrooms, mattresses that are either too soft or too firm, ineffective climate controls, hallway noise, and poor Wi-Fi can reduce comfort. Worn furniture and musty odors do not match a high four-star rate. At approximately €300 per night, I would choose another hotel.

Would I stay again?

My overall rating is 3.5 out of 5. I would return at a fair price, outside major event periods, and only after requesting a renovated upper-floor Superior room or suite facing the courtyard. I would avoid a basement Standard room, an older mattress, and arriving with a large car.

Concorde location and transport

Walking from Isartor station

From Munich Airport, the S8 train to Isartor is the most practical option. The walk from Isartor station to the hotel takes about five minutes. Head toward the old town and Tal, then turn into the quieter side streets leading to the hotel. Small suitcase wheels can struggle slightly on sections of paving stone.

A hotel-arranged airport taxi cost €140. It arrived on time and was reliable, but the fare was high compared with the S-Bahn. The S8 is the better choice for most visitors.

Marienplatz, Hofbräuhaus, and the old town

Hofbräuhaus is roughly a three-to-five-minute walk from the hotel. Marienplatz takes around seven to ten minutes. Viktualienmarkt, the New Town Hall, and St. Peter’s Church are also nearby. From Marienplatz, walk east along Tal toward Isartor and turn into the side streets leading to the hotel.

Maximilianstraße is only a few minutes away, while the Munich Residenz, Odeonsplatz, and the southern edge of the English Garden can also be reached on foot. Small local cafés and restaurants around the hotel provide alternatives to the busier tourist venues near Marienplatz. For a central Munich sightseeing trip, the location is the strongest reason to choose Concorde.
