Quick Summary of My Hotel Review
Rooms, Price, and Overall Stay
Augustin is a modern hotel in Munich’s Schwanthalerhöhe area, right by Theresienwiese, the Bavaria statue, Bavaria Park, and the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum. The hotel looks just like its photos: bright, clean, stylish, and very family-friendly without feeling childish. For a 6-person room, I paid about €550 for 3 nights. Breakfast was €15 per adult, and underground parking was €14 per night during my stay. At the hotel bar, a 0.5 l Helles beer was €3.90, which is very reasonable for Munich. The best parts of the stay were the cleanliness, breakfast, family rooms, 6-person rooms, and location. The weaker points were the small double rooms, limited storage in some rooms, missing chair or desk, no safe, no minibar, no tea bags in some rooms, and air conditioning that was not always strong enough. Noise can also be an issue depending on the room and who is staying nearby. Still, for a Munich hotel near Theresienwiese, Augustin is a place I would book again.
Booking Price Payment
Reservation and Room Cost
I booked online before arrival, then completed payment by card at the hotel. The booking process was easy, and it worked well even when arranging rooms for a larger group. The 6-person room cost about €550 for 3 nights. For that price, the room included 6 beds, 2 showers, and a separate toilet, which is excellent value in Munich. On another stay, a family room booked early came in at under €200 per night. The double room can be good for a short stay, but I recommend checking the exact room category before booking because some standard rooms are quite small.
Check-in and Check-out
Check-in was usually fast. The front desk checked the reservation name and passports, then handed over the key cards. Staff could explain things clearly in English, so there was no issue if you do not speak German. During Oktoberfest, guests received wristbands, which helped keep non-guests from entering the hotel areas. Once, I arrived before the official check-in time and had to wait for the room. Waiting was fair, but the front desk could have handled the situation better with children around. Check-out was simple. I returned the key cards, checked the extra charges for breakfast, parking, and the bar, then paid by card. There were no unexpected charges.
Room Types and Guest Experience
Double Room
The double room was clean, modern, and nicely designed, but small. The bed took up most of the room. In one double room, there was no chair, no armchair, no stool, and no proper desk. That is fine if all you need is a place to sleep, but it is not comfortable if you need to answer emails or take a work call. Storage was also limited in some rooms. Without a proper closet or shelves, clothes stayed in the suitcase or ended up on the bed. The bed itself was clean and comfortable, and the bedding felt fresh. The mattress was on the firm side, which worked for me, but it may feel too hard if you prefer a softer bed.
6-Person Room
The 6-person room is one of the best reasons to choose Augustin. Each bed had a curtain, a shelf, and charging points, so everyone had a small private area. For a family of five or six, or a group of friends, this room works very well. The two showers inside the room and the separate toilet made mornings much easier. Lockers opened with the room key card, so personal items felt secure. It has the practical side of a hostel room, but the cleanliness, bedding, lighting, and overall finish are much closer to a hotel. For Munich, this room type is a very strong choice.
Family Room and Suite
The family rooms were spacious and comfortable. Rooms with a separate children’s area and sliding door were especially useful. Kids could sleep in their own area while adults still had some space to sit or move around. The larger room, around 52 square meters, had plenty of space for luggage and felt much easier for a family stay than a normal hotel room. The bathroom was also more comfortable in the larger rooms. The weaker points were the hard sofa bed and, in one room, a child mattress placed very low to the floor. Children handled it well, but adults would probably find it too firm for a full night.
Cleanliness Bedding Comfort
Beds and Bedding
The beds were clean, the sheets felt fresh, and the rooms did not have any stale smell. Bedding was soft enough without feeling heavy. In the 6-person room, the curtains around each bed helped block light and movement from the rest of the room. Charging a phone from the bed was easy because the outlets were placed well. The regular beds were comfortable, but the mattresses were firm. The sofa bed was much harder than the standard beds, so I would not choose it for an adult unless necessary.
Room Cleanliness
Cleanliness is one of Augustin’s strongest points. The room, bathroom, hallways, lobby, and breakfast area were all very well maintained. On arrival, the room was spotless, and I felt comfortable unpacking right away. During a longer stay, one cleaning service missed the water bottle refill and left used glasses in the room. That was disappointing because the hotel’s usual standard was high. When I asked for fresh towels, the staff handled it quickly.
Bathroom Shower Toilet
Shower Pressure and Hot Water
The bathrooms were modern and clean. Shower pressure was good, and hot water stayed steady. In the 6-person room, having two showers made a huge difference. The separate toilet also made the room easier to use with several people. Towels were clean, and the room had hand soap plus a shower gel that could also be used as shampoo. The setup was simple but useful.
Bathroom Downsides
Some bathrooms needed more hooks and shelf space. With several people in one room, that becomes annoying quickly. In one accessible room, the shower had no raised edge, so water spread across the bathroom floor. After showering, the floor had to be dried. One shower floor also felt slippery, so I was careful when using it with children. The bathrooms looked good, but not every room was equally practical.
Noise Heating Air Conditioning Amenities
Soundproofing and Noise
With the windows closed, outside noise was mostly well controlled. Even a room facing the street was quiet enough for sleep. With the windows open, the situation changed. Noise from restaurants, guests outside, traffic, and late-night activity could be heard. When groups or school classes stayed in the hotel, hallway noise and noise from upper floors became noticeable. Sounds from the next room also carried through when people were loud. If quiet sleep is important, I recommend asking for a higher floor or an inner-facing room.
Temperature and Air Conditioning
In winter, the room was warm, sometimes warmer than I wanted at night. In hot weather, the air conditioning was not always strong enough. In one room, the AC was noisy. In another, it did not cool as much as I expected. Opening the window helped with air, but it also brought in noise. This is one of the hotel’s weaker points, especially in summer. In cooler seasons, room temperature was much less of an issue.
Room Amenities
The rooms are modern but not packed with extras. Lighting was good, windows were large, towels were clean, and bed-area outlets were practical. The 6-person room was especially good because each bed had charging points and a shelf. Some double rooms, however, had no desk, no chair, no closet, no safe, and no minibar. Some rooms had a kettle, but no tea bags or coffee. Other rooms did not have a kettle at all, so hot water had to be taken from downstairs. TV entertainment was offline once during my stay. These are small details, but they matter on a longer stay.
Breakfast Bar Restaurant
Breakfast Price and Food
Breakfast was €15 per adult, and I found it worth paying for. The buffet included bread rolls, pretzels, croissants, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt, muesli, nuts, seeds, eggs, white sausages, Obazda, juice, and coffee. Milk alternatives were available. The breakfast room was bright, spacious, and pleasant, with enough seating. Food was replenished quickly. It is not a huge luxury buffet, but it is a very good hotel breakfast with a regional Munich touch.
Breakfast Downsides and Bar
Breakfast was good, but not every part was perfect. If you expect many hot dishes, the choice may feel limited. I did not see lactose-free yogurt, although a lactose-free coffee could be ordered. Tables were not always fully set; guests picked up trays and cutlery themselves. That made the breakfast area feel more casual than a classic hotel restaurant. The bar was a nice surprise. A 0.5 l Helles for €3.90 is excellent for Munich. The 0.75 l bottle of water at reception for €4.50 felt expensive.
Staff Service Friendliness
Front Desk
Most front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and quick. English was not a problem. Questions about rooms, parking, public transport, and nearby places were answered clearly. Email communication before arrival was also fast. The van in the lobby was a nice touch for children during check-in because they could play and draw while waiting. One arrival and departure felt less welcoming, though. The staff member did the basic work but did not ask whether everything was okay or show much warmth.
Breakfast Staff and Housekeeping
Breakfast staff were attentive and kept the buffet moving. Requests about coffee and milk options were handled politely. Bar and restaurant staff were relaxed and easy to talk to. Housekeeping was generally strong, and rooms were kept very clean. Fresh towels came quickly when requested. The only issue was the missed water refill and used glasses during one longer stay.
Parking and Public Transport
Underground Parking
The hotel’s underground garage was easy to use and spacious enough. I paid €14 per night. For Munich, that is a fair parking rate. There were also charging points for electric cars. It was useful to leave the car there after check-out for a short time and take the U-Bahn into the city instead of driving.
Best Way to Get Around
During Oktoberfest or major events, parking near Theresienwiese is difficult. Free street parking can sometimes be found, but I would not rely on it. For sightseeing, it is better to leave the car at the hotel and use public transport. Schwanthalerhöhe U-Bahn station is close, and from there it is easy to reach Munich Central Station, Karlsplatz, and the old town.
Pros Cons Overall Satisfaction
What Worked Well
Augustin is clean, modern, and very good for families or groups. The 6-person room is practical and well designed, with curtains, charging points, 2 showers, and a separate toilet. Family rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is good, the bar is reasonably priced, and the location near Theresienwiese, Bavaria, Bavaria Park, and the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum is useful for a Munich city stay.
What Could Be Better
The smaller double rooms are not ideal if you need space, storage, or a proper place to work. Missing chairs, desks, safes, minibars, tea bags, and coffee are small things, but they add up. Air conditioning can be weak or noisy in hot weather. With open windows, some rooms get loud. Noise from groups, hallways, or neighboring rooms can also be a problem. Bathroom hooks, shower water spreading, and occasional TV issues were minor but real drawbacks. Even with these points, I would stay at Augustin again. I would simply choose the 6-person room or a family room instead of the smallest double room.
Location and Nearby Access
Theresienwiese Bavaria Schwanthalerhöhe U-Bahn
The hotel sits right next to Theresienwiese. The Bavaria statue is only a short walk away, and the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum is practically next door. During Oktoberfest, the location is excellent because the festival grounds are just across the way. Schwanthalerhöhe U-Bahn station is about a 5-minute walk from the hotel. From there, it is easy to reach Munich Central Station, Karlsplatz, and the old town. If arriving from Munich Airport, the easiest way is to travel to the central station first, then continue by U-Bahn to Schwanthalerhöhe and walk from there. The area around the hotel has restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, a shopping center, and Bavaria Park. It is not directly in the old town, but with the U-Bahn nearby, the location is very convenient.
