Andaz Quick Stay Review

Rooms, Service, and Overall Stay

Andaz is one of the Munich hotels that stands out for spacious rooms, comfortable beds, strong breakfast, a good spa area, and a rooftop bar with city views. Even the standard rooms feel larger than many European hotel rooms, while the suites offer much more space, bigger bathrooms, and better storage. The beds are one of the best parts of the stay. After long days in Munich, sleeping here is easy. Breakfast has a wide selection, the spa and pool are pleasant, and the hotel works well for both leisure and business stays. Still, at about €450 per night, the details matter. Not every stay had the same level of service. Check-in, housekeeping, breakfast orders, and final billing had issues on some days. Parking is available in the hotel garage, but it costs €45 per day. For most Munich plans, public transport is the better option.

Andaz Check-in Check-out and Payment

Arrival and Front Desk

Check-in at Andaz was usually smooth and quick. When I arrived before the official check-in time and the room was ready, the front desk allowed an early check-in, which helped a lot after a long trip. Passport and reservation checks were generally easy, and staff explained the elevator and room access clearly. Some front desk staff were excellent, offering help with bags, making restaurant reservations, and giving useful transport tips. There were weaker moments too. One prepaid stay was almost charged again, and on another arrival the staff member spoke almost only to my companion, which felt uncomfortable. The welcome drink and happy hour were not always explained either. At this price level, check-in should be consistent every time.

Price and Payment Method

One night came to about €450. For a suite, weekend, or busy travel period in Munich, that price is not shocking, but it does raise expectations. I had prepaid online bookings and also stays paid by card at the hotel. Card payment itself was easy, but the invoice needs to be checked carefully. A prepaid night almost appeared again on the final bill, and breakfast was once added even though it was included in the booking. Before leaving, it is worth checking the room rate, breakfast, minibar, parking, and any late check-out charge line by line.

Check-out and Extra Charges

Check-out was often quick. The staff checked the room number, reviewed open charges, and completed card payment without much waiting. Late check-out was possible on some stays. One extra hour was handled without difficulty, but another time the quoted charge was €50 until 1 p.m. and €100 until 2 p.m. Anyone planning a later departure should confirm the cost in advance. With prepaid bookings, I recommend checking the screen before approving payment.

Andaz Room Types Review

Standard King Room

The standard room at Andaz is roomy by Munich standards. There is enough space to open luggage and still move around comfortably. The king bed is very comfortable, supportive without being too firm, and the bedding feels soft and high quality. The duvet is not overly heavy, and the pillows are a good height. The desk and seating area are useful, and power outlets are placed well by the bed and workspace. Lighting is good, but the lighting controls are a bit complicated at first. There are many buttons, and it takes a little time to find the right setting.

Andaz Art Suite

The Andaz Art Suite is a strong choice for families or longer stays. It has a large bed, corner sofa, dining table, and enough room to feel almost like a small apartment. The bathroom is spacious, with a bathtub, separate shower, separate toilet, large mirrors, and plenty of closets and drawers. It is easy to unpack and actually use the room. One drawback is the clear glass around parts of the bathroom. It may be fine for couples, but it is not ideal with children or friends. A small bench near the entrance would also make the room more practical. Some rooms showed signs of use, and on certain stays I noticed dust or hair that should have been removed before arrival.

View Suite

The View Suite is one of the best room choices at Andaz. The view over Munich is wide and memorable, and on clear mornings the Alps can be seen in the distance. The suite feels spacious and upscale, with a comfortable bed, good seating area, and a very nice bathroom. Water pressure was excellent, and hot water came quickly. There was once an issue with the temperature setting at the start, but staff handled it quickly. Heating and air conditioning worked well after the setting was fixed. I recommend checking the room temperature as soon as you arrive.

Corner Suite and Tower Room

The Corner Suite offers a lot of space, a big bathroom, automatic curtains, and a very comfortable bed. Having two bathrooms made mornings much easier. Tower rooms are especially good for the view. Higher floors were quieter and more enjoyable. In one room above the entrance, outside noise came in when the windows were open. Taxi drivers talking and laughing late at night were easy to hear. With the windows closed, the room was much better. Light sleepers should request a high floor away from the entrance.

Andaz Cleanliness and Soundproofing

Housekeeping Quality

The rooms were usually clean, modern, and well kept. Bedding, towels, sink, and shower were often in very good condition. The minibar included water, soft drinks, and a small snack. Still, housekeeping quality was not always consistent. On some days, housekeeping came as early as 8:30 a.m.; on others, cleaning was very late or had to be requested. Minibar refills also varied. In one room, there were visible marks in the toilet and hair and dust on the floor. On another stay, there were glass shards in the carpet. After calling the front desk, help came, but not as quickly or directly as it should have. A staff member later entered the room without knocking, which is unacceptable in a 5-star hotel.

Bedding and Towels

The bedding is one of the hotel’s strengths. The mattress is comfortable, the sheets feel soft, and the pillows are easy to sleep on. Towels are thick and absorbent, and the bathrobe and slippers feel good quality. However, basic toiletries were not always complete. A toothbrush and body lotion were missing on some stays. For a room priced around €450 per night, the in-room amenity setup should be more complete. I recommend bringing your own toothbrush, toothpaste, and lotion.

Smell, Windows, and Noise

The rooms usually smelled fresh and clean. There was no musty smell or smoke odor. Some rooms have windows that open, which is useful for fresh air. In a quiet room, sleeping with the window open can be pleasant. Rooms facing the entrance or road are different. Exterior noise comes in when the window is open. Soundproofing also depends on room location. In one room, ambulance sirens were loud at night. In another, hallway noise was noticeable. The room change was handled quickly, and staff moved the luggage, which was appreciated. For better sleep, ask for a room away from elevators, away from the entrance, and on a higher floor.

Andaz Bathroom and Toilet

Shower and Water Pressure

Bathrooms are especially good in the suites. The shower space is comfortable, the bathtub is a real plus, and having the toilet separate from the main bathing area makes the room easier to use. Water pressure was strong and stable. Hot water came quickly. After a long day in Munich, the shower was one of the most reliable parts of the stay.

Sink Area and Storage

The sink area offers enough space for cosmetics, shaving items, contact lenses, and toiletries. Suites have large mirrors, good storage, and sometimes two vanity areas. A separate guest toilet is especially useful for families. Public restrooms in the hotel are also large and nicely maintained. Still, the occasional cleanliness issue in the room bathroom should not happen at this hotel level.

Amenities

Shampoo, shower gel, towels, bathrobe, and slippers were good quality. The weaker point is the missing small items. A toothbrush, lotion, and more complete personal-care items were not always provided in the room. Guests who care about specific toiletries should bring their own.

Andaz Breakfast Review

Breakfast Price and Value

Breakfast at Andaz is one of the strongest reasons to stay here. When included in the booking, it makes the morning very easy. When paid separately, it should be expected at around €45 per person. It is expensive, but most days the selection and food quality justify the price. However, if breakfast is included, check the final bill carefully because it was once added again by mistake.

Food Selection

The buffet includes bread, croissants, pretzels, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt, cereal, vegetables, warm dishes, and made-to-order eggs. Avocado toast, pancakes, and Eggs Benedict were available. Coffee, including espresso and flat white, was good. Fruit and vegetables were fresh, and the flower tea was a nice detail. Breakfast on the terrace was especially enjoyable. The bakery selection could be better. There was dark bread, small croissants, pretzels, and whole-grain rolls, but not enough soft white rolls or sweet pastries. Simple Asian options such as congee or noodles would also improve the breakfast.

Breakfast Service

Many breakfast staff members were friendly and attentive. Vegetarian options were explained well, and some staff checked the table regularly. There were also weaker mornings. Orders were forgotten, wrong items arrived, and Eggs Benedict did not taste the same each day. On one morning, it was too salty to enjoy. Some staff spoke little German, which led to misunderstandings. The breakfast itself is very good, but service during busy hours needs to be more reliable. Going earlier helps.

Andaz Spa Pool and Fitness

Spa and Saunas

The spa is impressive for a city hotel. It has several saunas, clean locker rooms, and a stylish pool area. Being able to use the sauna before breakfast was a nice advantage. However, the relaxation rooms were not always quiet. Construction noise was audible on one visit, and without soft music the noise stood out even more. The spa needs a quieter rest area to match the hotel’s price level.

Pool and Loungers

The pool is beautiful and well maintained, but small for the size of the hotel. In the afternoon and on weekends, loungers can be hard to get. Family swim hours are good for guests with children, but guests looking for quiet should avoid those times. One lounger had a missing screw and the backrest suddenly dropped, which was painful and surprising. Pool furniture should be checked more carefully.

Fitness and Massage

The gym is good for a hotel. It has enough equipment for cardio and a normal workout. Massage and day-spa pricing should be checked carefully. A 60-minute massage cost €120 per person, and using the sauna before the treatment was quoted at an extra €60 per person. For two people, that means €360 in total. This was not clear enough before arrival, and the spa desk response was disappointing. Anyone booking spa services without a room should confirm exactly what is included.

Andaz Restaurant Bar and Room Service

Lonely Broccoli

Lonely Broccoli is the hotel restaurant and a good choice for breakfast and steak. Dinner was very good, with tender meat and strong flavor. Weekend reservations are recommended. Breakfast is also served here. The room is attractive, but at busy times orders can get lost. The food and setting are good, while breakfast service needs to be steadier when the restaurant is full.

Rooftop Bar and Happy Hour

Muniqo Rooftop Bar is one of the hotel highlights. The view over Munich, good cocktails, and relaxed evening setting make it a great place to end the day. On some stays, there was a guest happy hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with pretzels, Obazda, wine, draft beer, and other drinks included. This was not always explained at check-in, so it is worth asking. Drinks at the bar were good, but during busy times it sometimes took too long to order another round. Wrong orders also happened.

Room Service

Room service food tasted good and arrived with clean presentation. It is a comfortable option for a quiet evening in the room. The main issue was phone communication. One order was not understood because the staff member did not speak German and spoke only limited English. The call ended, and nobody called back. I had to go to the front desk to place the request. The food was fine; the order-taking process needs improvement.

Andaz Staff Review

Front Desk

The front desk can be excellent. Some staff were warm, professional, and quick to solve problems. A lost piece of jewelry was found and returned quickly. A room change due to noise was handled without difficulty, and the luggage was moved. On other days, explanations were incomplete, invoice items were wrong, or the welcome felt impersonal. Service quality depends strongly on the individual staff member.

Breakfast Staff

Breakfast staff were often friendly and helpful. I appreciated staff who explained vegetarian options or regularly checked whether coffee or anything else was needed. But there were also inexperienced staff members, forgotten orders, and language problems. At this breakfast price, service should stay steady even during busy periods.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping was good on many days. Towels, bed, and bathroom were clean, and the room was made up nicely. On weaker days, there were clear problems: late cleaning, minibar not refilled, hair and dust on the floor, glass in the carpet, and a staff member entering without knocking. The last point is a serious issue for a luxury hotel.

Andaz Parking and Transport

Hotel Parking

The hotel has an underground garage. It is convenient once you find the right entrance, but the first arrival can be confusing. Better pre-arrival instructions would help. Parking cost €45 per day. For a short stay it may be acceptable, but for longer stays it adds a lot to the bill. If you do not need the car every day, public transport is the better choice.

Public Transport

Trams stop directly by the hotel, making it easy to reach central Munich. Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, and the Old Town are accessible by tram and U-Bahn connections. Nordfriedhof U-Bahn station is also useful. Taxis to the center are straightforward. The hotel is not in the middle of the tourist center, but the connection is good and the area is calmer.

Andaz Pros and Cons

What Works Well

The biggest strengths are large rooms, comfortable beds, strong breakfast, a good spa, and the rooftop bar. The suites are especially good for families or longer stays. The hotel also works well for business travelers who want space, a proper gym, and fast transport connections.

What Needs Work

The price is high, so mistakes stand out. At about €450 per night, cleaning issues, wrong charges, forgotten breakfast orders, weak communication, or missing toiletries feel more serious. Parking at €45 per day is expensive. The pool area can be crowded, some rooms are not quiet enough, and spa pricing for outside use is steep.

Would I Stay Again?

I would stay at Andaz again when I want a spacious Munich hotel with good breakfast, spa access, and a quieter Schwabing location. It is not the best choice for travelers who want to be right next to Marienplatz or who need the lowest price. For guests who value room size, a comfortable bed, hotel facilities, and good transport access, Andaz remains a strong option. My recommendation is to book breakfast included, request a high room away from the entrance, and check parking and late check-out costs in advance.

Andaz Location and Nearby Area

From Schwabinger Tor to Munich Highlights

Andaz is located by Schwabinger Tor in northern Munich. Around the hotel there are restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, and some shopping options. Schwabinger See is nearby, and the English Garden is reachable on foot or by bike. Olympic Park is easy to reach by taxi or public transport. To get to Marienplatz and the Old Town, take the tram from the hotel area and connect to the U-Bahn or another tram. Nordfriedhof is also useful for U-Bahn access. The location is not directly in the city center, but it is well connected, calmer, and very convenient for a stay in Schwabing.
