Hotel Stay Summary

A Central Hotel With Strong Room Comfort

Schiller5 is a very practical Munich hotel for travelers who want to stay near Munich Central Station. The station is only a short walk away, and Karlsplatz and Marienplatz are also easy to reach on foot. For a Munich hotel review, the location is one of its clearest advantages. The rooms were generally spacious, clean, quiet and well equipped. The small kitchenette, complimentary minibar and good soundproofing made the stay more comfortable than expected for a hotel in this area. The bed was comfortable, the bedding was clean, and the breakfast was one of the strongest parts of the stay. There were breads, coffee, eggs, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt and hot dishes, with food refilled regularly. The main downside is the neighborhood. The hotel itself felt secure, but the streets around it were not always pleasant, especially at night. If room quality, breakfast and access to transport matter most, Schiller5 is a very good choice. If the surrounding area is a major part of the hotel experience for you, this is something to consider before booking.

Price and Booking

Room Rates by Type

The price at Schiller5 changed depending on date and room type. I paid about 170 euros per night for a regular room and about 220 euros per night for a rooftop room. Prices can rise during busy periods such as Oktoberfest, trade fairs and major events in Munich. Considering the central location, room size, free minibar and overall comfort, the regular room felt reasonable. The rooftop room cost more, but the extra space and better room layout made it worthwhile. This is not simply a cheap hotel near the station. The value comes from the room comfort, breakfast, location and service.

Breakfast and Parking Costs

Breakfast cost about 19 euros per person. It was not the cheapest hotel breakfast, but the quality made the price acceptable. The food was fresh, the coffee was good, and the buffet was refilled often. Parking cost about 25 euros per day. The hotel has an underground garage with a car lift. It is useful, but the space is tight. If you arrive with a larger car, it is better to check parking availability and size in advance. For most Munich city trips, arriving by train and using public transport is easier.

Check-in and Check-out

Arrival and Waiting Time

Check-in was usually quick and smooth. The reservation and passport were checked without delay, and the staff explained the essentials clearly. When the room was ready, early access was possible. Late-night arrival was also handled well. That matters in this part of Munich because many guests arrive by train. The entrance is slightly set back from the street, so it is easy to miss the first time. I had to look carefully for the hotel entrance on my first arrival.

Departure and Extra Charges

Check-out was simple. Since the minibar was included, there was no separate drink charge to review. Breakfast and parking were listed separately when used. A later check-out was allowed once without any fuss, which made the stay easier. One thing to watch is the invoice process when booking through a third-party platform. For business travel, it is better to check in advance whether the invoice comes directly from the hotel or from the booking partner.

Payment and Included Extras

Card Payment and Prepayment

Card payment was the easiest option. I had stays paid in advance and stays paid at the front desk. When paying on site, the room rate, breakfast and parking were checked at reception and paid by card. Cash was not necessary. For business travelers, direct booking is more convenient if a clean invoice is important.

Complimentary Minibar and Room Benefits

The complimentary minibar was a real advantage. Water, soft drinks, juice and beer were available in the room, and they were refilled on some days. After a long day in Munich, that small detail was useful. Depending on the room, there was also a kitchenette with a microwave, kettle, sink, cooking area, coffee machine and tableware. This made the room much more practical for longer stays. Not all rooms have the exact same equipment, so it is better to choose the room type carefully if a kitchenette is important.

Room Types and Room Experience

Regular Room

The regular room was spacious for a hotel near the central station. I could open my suitcase without blocking the whole room. The desk, chair and storage space were all practical. The mattress was comfortable and supportive, and the bedding felt clean and soft. The pillows were less consistent. In one room they were too flat, while in another they felt too firm. If you are sensitive about pillows, ask for an extra one.

Rooftop Room

The rooftop room was the better choice for more space. The room itself was larger, the bathroom was more comfortable, and the balcony made the room feel more open. The view over Munich was a nice bonus. The kitchenette and small dining area worked well for a longer stay. There was also better storage space than in many city hotels. For couples, families or travelers with more luggage, the rooftop room is worth considering.

Longer Stay Comfort

For longer stays, the room equipment became even more useful. The fridge, kitchenette and desk gave the room a small-apartment feel. It was easy to keep fruit, snacks or simple meals in the room. One fridge did not cool properly, though. Drinks did not get cold enough, so I would not rely on it for food that needs strong refrigeration.

Cleanliness and Room Smell

Bedding, Floor and Daily Cleaning

Most rooms were very clean. The sheets, bathroom, floor and surfaces were well maintained. After housekeeping, the room was tidy and fresh towels were ready. The bedding smelled clean, and I rarely noticed any unpleasant odor in the room. Small touches such as a handwritten welcome note made the stay feel more personal.

Weaker Cleaning Moments

There were also weaker moments. In one room, the bathroom and kitchenette were not cleaned as well as expected. In one hallway, renovation work was not fully finished and visible cables affected the overall impression. This was not the usual standard of the hotel, but it did happen. If anything is not right after check-in, it is best to speak to reception immediately because the staff usually respond quickly.

Bed and Sleep Quality

Mattress and Bedding

Sleep quality was generally good. The mattress was comfortable and gave enough support after long days walking around Munich. The sheets were clean and pleasant. The blanket was comfortable, and the room temperature was easy to manage. In summer, the air conditioning worked well. In colder weather, the room stayed warm enough.

Pillows and Light

The pillows were the weaker part of the bed. Some were too soft, while others were too hard. The room darkening was also not perfect in every room. In one room, the blinds did not close completely, so morning light came in early. If you are sensitive to light, bring an eye mask or ask for a quieter, darker room. Rooms facing the courtyard can also have some echo.

Bathroom and Toilet

Size and Usability

The bathrooms were clean, but some standard-room bathrooms were small. For a city trip, the size was fine. For two people with many toiletries, it could feel tight. There was enough space for basic items, and higher-category rooms had more comfortable bathrooms. The walk-in shower was convenient, and the heated towel rail was useful. Some rooms even had a bathroom radio.

Water Pressure and Hot Water

Water pressure was usually good. The shower was strong enough and easy to use in the morning. However, in one room the water temperature changed during the shower. It moved from hot to cold and back again, which was uncomfortable. In other rooms, the hot water was stable. Towels were clean, but some were thinner and smaller than I prefer.

Amenities

The bathroom amenities were better than basic hotel products. Rituals products were provided and smelled good. Soap, shower products and cream were available. A hair dryer was also included. The bathroom was small in some rooms, but the equipment was good enough for a comfortable stay.

Room Facilities and Temperature

Kitchenette and Work Desk

The kitchenette is one of the best features of Schiller5. Depending on the room, there were plates, cutlery, a microwave, kettle, sink, hob and coffee machine. This is very useful for a hotel room in Munich. The desk was also comfortable for work. There was enough space for a laptop and documents, and the Wi-Fi was good enough for normal work.

Air Conditioning and Windows

The air conditioning worked well. In summer, the room cooled down quickly. In winter, the room was warm enough. Some windows could be opened, which was nice during the day. At night or early in the morning, I would keep them closed because street noise, people outside and construction sounds can come in.

Noise and Quietness

Soundproof Windows

Despite the central station location, the rooms were surprisingly quiet. With the windows closed, street noise was limited. Even rooms facing the street were better soundproofed than expected. For a hotel in this area, that is a major advantage. It works well for travelers who want central access but still need proper rest.

Construction and Hallway Noise

There was construction around the hotel at times. With the window open, the noise was clear in the morning. The way to the hotel was also less direct during construction. Hallways were usually quiet, but renovated areas could feel unfinished. A room facing the back or on a higher floor is the better choice for light sleepers.

Breakfast Review

Food Selection and Taste

Breakfast was very good. There were breads, rolls, cheese, cold cuts, salmon, yogurt, muesli, jams, fruit, eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, pretzels, pancakes, tea and good coffee. The cappuccino was especially good. The food was fresh and carefully presented. Breakfast is one of the main reasons I would choose this hotel again.

Refills and Breakfast Service

The buffet was refilled regularly. Instead of leaving huge trays out for a long time, the staff added fresh portions often. That kept the buffet cleaner and more pleasant. The breakfast staff were attentive, friendly and calm even when the room was busy. Coffee was served at the table, and special drink requests were handled well.

Breakfast Downsides

One very busy morning was weaker. Tables were not cleared quickly, and coffee took a long time. Hot dishes were also empty for a while. Vegan options were limited. Bread, fruit, guacamole and oat milk were available, but there was not a wide vegan selection. If you want a quieter breakfast, go earlier rather than near the busiest time.

Staff Service

Front Desk

The front desk staff were usually very friendly, helpful and professional. They answered questions about restaurants, attractions and transport clearly. When I needed an iron, it was brought to the room quickly. An early-morning taxi to the airport was also arranged without trouble. Late arrivals and travel changes were handled calmly. English communication was easy.

Breakfast Staff and Housekeeping

The breakfast team stood out. Coffee, buffet refills and small requests were handled with care. Housekeeping was usually thorough, and the room was tidy after cleaning. There were a few exceptions where the bathroom and kitchenette were not cleaned well enough, but overall the staff remained one of the hotel’s strengths.

Parking

Underground Garage With Car Lift

The hotel has an underground garage. That is useful in this part of Munich, where parking can be difficult. The cost was about 25 euros per day. Access is through a car lift, which feels unusual at first but works fine. The spaces are tight, so larger vehicles should be checked with the hotel before arrival. For a regular car, it is manageable.

Public Transport Is Easier

For most Munich stays, a car is not necessary here. Munich Central Station, underground trains, suburban trains, trams and buses are all nearby. The city center is also walkable. Considering traffic, construction and parking costs, public transport is usually the better choice.

Advantages

Rooms and Facilities

The biggest advantages of Schiller5 are the clean and well-equipped rooms. The free minibar, kitchenette, desk, stable Wi-Fi and quiet windows make the stay easy. It is especially practical for business trips and longer stays. The rooms feel more personal than many larger chain hotels.

Breakfast and Service

Breakfast is another major advantage. The selection is fresh, tasty and varied enough. The staff are friendly and personal, not mechanical. The hotel has a warmer feel than many hotels around the central station. This mix of location, breakfast and service makes the stay very comfortable.

Disadvantages

Station-Area Surroundings

The biggest disadvantage is the area around the hotel. The location is very central, but it is still the station district. There are gambling places, bars, adult-entertainment signs and groups on the street at night. I felt safe inside the hotel, but the neighborhood was not always pleasant. At night, it is better to stay on the main streets and walk directly to the hotel.

Room Details and Occasional Issues

Some bathrooms are small. Some pillows were uncomfortable. In one room, the shower temperature changed during use, and in another room the fridge did not cool properly. Construction made the way to the hotel less convenient at times. Breakfast service was slow on one very busy morning. The hotel is still good overall, but these points are worth knowing before booking.

Overall Satisfaction and Would I Stay Again

Personal Verdict

Schiller5 is a strong Munich hotel if you want to stay near the main station. The rooms, cleanliness, breakfast and service are the main strengths. The location is excellent for transport and sightseeing, but the immediate area is not attractive. If you can accept that, the hotel itself offers a very comfortable stay.

Who Should Book It

I recommend Schiller5 for train travelers, business travelers, couples and visitors who want to explore Munich on foot or by public transport. It is a good choice if you care about a quiet room, good breakfast, central location and practical equipment. If you want an elegant neighborhood around the hotel, choose another part of Munich. I would stay here again when I need a central hotel near Munich Central Station.

Location and Nearby Access

From Munich Central Station to the Hotel

From Munich Central Station, leave from the south side and walk toward Bayerstraße. From there, continue into the Schillerstraße area, where the hotel is slightly set back from the main street. The entrance is not highly visible at first, so it is worth paying attention to the signage. The walk is easy even with luggage. Karlsplatz is close, and the old town, Marienplatz, shopping streets and major sights are also within walking distance. Underground trains, suburban trains, trams and buses are all nearby. The location is excellent for arrival, departure and sightseeing, but the immediate neighborhood remains a typical central-station area.
