Hotel Aurbacher Hof Stay Summary

Hotel Aurbacher Hof is a quiet hotel in Munich Au-Haidhausen and works well for travelers who want to stay near Rosenheimer Platz, Deutsches Museum and Ostbahnhof. The neighborhood is calm, with cafés, bakeries, restaurants and shops nearby. The rooms are mostly small. A single room is fine for one person, while some double rooms feel tight because of the 140 cm bed and very small bathroom. Room quality was not always the same. I had clean and quiet rooms, but I also had rooms with poor bathroom cleaning, old furniture and visible maintenance issues. A weekday single room cost about 84 euros per night. A two-night stay without breakfast cost about 240 euros. During busy dates, one night without breakfast was over 200 euros. Breakfast is 12 euros per person, and underground parking is 15 euros per day. Staff were usually friendly, but reception and checkout service depended on who was working. Around 100 euros per night, I would stay again. At 200 euros or more, I would compare it with other Munich hotels first.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Room Review

Single Room

The single room at Hotel Aurbacher Hof is small but enough for one person. It had a bed, a small desk, a TV and space for a suitcase. For a short business trip or a short Munich stay, it works well. The single bed was about 1 meter wide and generally comfortable. Mattress quality changed by room. One room had a decent mattress, while another had a mattress that was too soft and slightly sunken. The bedding was often clean, but one room had a short sheet loosely placed on the mattress. It moved during the night. Not every room had a power outlet by the bed, so a long charging cable is useful.

Double Room

The double rooms are quite compact. In some rooms, the 140 cm double bed is pushed against the wall. The person sleeping inside has to climb over the other person to get out. It is manageable for one night, but uncomfortable for a longer stay. Some rooms had no proper wardrobe, only hooks, a few hangers or small shelves. A larger double room on an upper floor felt more comfortable and more modern, but the standard double rooms stayed tight. I noticed wall scratches, old furniture and general wear. In some rooms, the TV did not work properly, and the minibar was empty or not working.

Cleanliness and Smell

Cleanliness at Hotel Aurbacher Hof varied a lot. In good rooms, the bed, bathroom, floor and desk were clean. In weaker rooms, the cleaning was clearly not done well. Towels were left on the floor, toilet paper was missing, and an open shampoo bottle was left in the shower. One desk still had signs of previous use. I also had a room with stained bedding and a small insect issue, which I reported to reception immediately. A room change was offered, but the replacement room had a similar mattress problem. The corridor sometimes smelled of smoke. The rooms themselves were not always smelly, but the age of the building was noticeable.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Bed and Noise Review

Bed and Bedding

The bed experience depended on the room. Some nights were comfortable, while other nights were affected by a mattress that was too soft or dipped in the middle. The pillow had a normal hotel height and worked fine for me. The bedding felt clean when it was properly fitted. The problem was the loose short sheet in some rooms. At around 84 to 100 euros per night, small issues are easier to accept. At over 200 euros per night without breakfast, I expect a better bed setup.

Noise

The courtyard-facing rooms are the best option. In those rooms, I could keep the window slightly open and still sleep quietly. The neighborhood is calmer than the old town. Still, the soundproofing is not strong in every room. Doors, hallway noise, neighboring rooms and voices were easy to hear in some rooms. I was also woken up by cleaning staff talking in the hallway in the morning. One room had noticeable heating pipe noise. Light sleepers should request a courtyard-facing room.

Heating and Air Conditioning

In winter, the room was warm and dry. That was comfortable after a long day in Munich. Summer is different. The rooms have no air conditioning, and a fan was not always available. If the room heats up during the day, it stays warm at night. The windows can be opened, which helps, but it is not enough on hot days. I recommend this hotel in summer only if you can handle a warm room.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Bathroom and Amenities Review

Bathroom Size and Shower

The bathrooms are small. In a single room, the bathroom was acceptable. In some double rooms, it felt very tight. Renovated bathrooms looked clean and functional. Water pressure was usually good, and hot water worked well. However, I also had rooms with a dripping tap, a broken shower, damaged fittings or water pooling in the shower. Some bathrooms had mold marks or worn areas around the ceiling, shower screen and outlets. I recommend checking the bathroom right after check-in.

Towels and Bathroom Cleaning

When the room was properly prepared, the towels were clean and enough for a short stay. In one double room, there were towels and a pillow for only one person, so I had to ask for more. Bathroom cleaning was the most inconsistent part. A clean bathroom at Hotel Aurbacher Hof can be perfectly fine, but a poorly cleaned bathroom is immediately noticeable because the space is so small. Missing toilet paper, open toiletries and unclean surfaces are not acceptable in a hotel room.

Toiletries and Room Extras

Amenities are basic. Shampoo and body wash were not always fully stocked. Bottled water in the room is charged if opened, usually around 2.50 to 2.90 euros per bottle. Most rooms did not have a kettle. A safe should not be expected either. There were no USB-C outlets, and bedside outlets were missing in several rooms. Better rooms had a useful bathroom shelf, a luggage stand and good desk lighting.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Check-in and Payment Review

Check-in

Check-in was usually simple. The reservation and ID were checked, then I received the key and a short explanation. Reception staff were often friendly. If arriving after 10 p.m., it is important to contact the hotel in advance because regular reception may not be available. Access is then handled through a key box or separate entry instructions. The hotel has an elevator, which helps because the building has five floors. The elevator is small, so one person with a large suitcase fits best.

Checkout and Payment

Checkout was quick. I returned the key and checked the extra charges. Breakfast, underground parking and opened water bottles were charged separately. Breakfast cost 12 euros per person, parking cost 15 euros per day, and room water cost 2.50 to 2.90 euros per bottle. I booked online and paid by card. Card payment at the hotel was also possible. Changes, cancellations and refund requests were handled less flexibly, so I recommend checking the booking conditions carefully before confirming.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Breakfast Review

Price and Food

Breakfast costs 12 euros per person. The buffet included bread rolls, croissants, butter, jam, cheese, ham, salami, yogurt, fruit, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee, tea and juice. The selection is not huge, but it is enough for a small hotel. Coffee was served at the table, which I liked. The scrambled eggs and bread were good. For a normal breakfast, it is fine. If you only want coffee and a roll, nearby bakeries are also a good option.

Breakfast Room and Terrace

The breakfast room is one of the nicest parts of the hotel. It feels warmer and more pleasant than some of the older rooms. In good weather, the small garden terrace is a real plus. Having coffee there in the morning is a good way to start the day. The tables are not very large, but at normal times I had enough space. Breakfast staff were attentive and quickly brought coffee or anything missing.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Staff Review

Reception

Reception was usually friendly and helpful. Questions about bus, tram, S-Bahn, taxis or luggage storage were answered well. The arrival experience was often pleasant. Still, there were weaker moments. One male staff member was impolite, and checkout was not always as friendly as check-in. When there were room problems, a room change was offered, but not every issue was fully solved.

Breakfast and Housekeeping

Breakfast staff were friendly and attentive. Coffee, plates and small requests were handled quickly. Housekeeping was mixed. When the room was cleaned well, everything was fine. But there were clear problems too. One room was entered despite the “Do Not Disturb” sign, and early conversations in the hallway disturbed the morning. In a hotel with small, not very soundproof rooms, this matters.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Parking and Transport

Underground Parking

Hotel Aurbacher Hof has its own underground parking garage. The price is 15 euros per day. For Munich, parking directly at the hotel is convenient because street parking nearby is not easy. The garage is narrow. A small car is fine, but a larger car or SUV requires care. If you arrive with a wide vehicle, I recommend asking the hotel in advance.

Public Transport

The hotel is also easy to use without a car. Bus and tram stops are nearby, and Rosenheimer Platz is about a 10-minute walk away. From there, it is quick to reach Marienplatz by S-Bahn. Ostbahnhof is also easy to reach. The hotel is not directly in the old town, but that makes the nights quieter. For a Munich city trip using public transport, the location works well.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Pros and Cons

Pros

The main advantages of Hotel Aurbacher Hof are the quiet location, good transport access, mostly friendly staff, pleasant breakfast room and garden terrace. A courtyard-facing room makes the stay much better. Restaurants, cafés, bakeries and shops are close by. At 84 to 100 euros per night, the price is reasonable for Munich.

Cons

The downsides are small rooms, small bathrooms, 140 cm double beds in some rooms, no air conditioning and inconsistent soundproofing. The need for renovation is also visible. In some rooms, the bathroom, bed or furniture were not in the condition I expect at higher prices. Breakfast and parking cost extra. At over 200 euros per night, I would compare other Munich hotels. Around 100 euros per night, I would book again.

Hotel Aurbacher Hof Location and Nearby Area

From Rosenheimer Platz

Hotel Aurbacher Hof is in Au-Haidhausen, a quieter residential part of Munich. From Rosenheimer Platz, it takes about 10 minutes on foot toward Regerplatz. From Marienplatz, the easiest way is to take the S-Bahn to Rosenheimer Platz and walk from there. Deutsches Museum is also walkable, especially along the Isar side. Ostbahnhof, Gasteig and Müllersches Volksbad are easy to reach as well. Around the hotel, there are restaurants, cafés, bakeries, a supermarket and a drugstore. I recommend this location for travelers who want a quieter neighborhood while still staying close enough to central Munich.
