Review Summary

Bavarian Food with a Marienplatz View

Wildmosers is a restaurant in Munich Altstadt-Lehel near Marienplatz that I visited several times. Its biggest strength is the location. Sitting close to the New Town Hall and the Glockenspiel makes the meal feel very Munich-centered. The best dishes were the white sausage with sweet mustard, pork knuckle, schnitzel, currywurst, beer, and apple strudel. Prices are not low. For lunch, I paid around €20–30 per person, and for a larger dinner with several dishes, the bill came to around €60–70 for two people. I usually had no wait, but outdoor tables filled quickly on good-weather days. Service was often friendly, though I recommend checking the receipt and tip amount carefully when paying. The restroom is available inside, but it requires a small fee. Overall, Wildmosers is worth visiting for Bavarian classics and a central Munich view, but the German dishes are much stronger than the pizza, burger, or coffee.

Food Review at Wildmosers

White Sausage and Beer

The white sausage was one of the safest choices at Wildmosers. It had a mild, tender texture and worked very well with sweet mustard. The flavor was simple but satisfying, especially with a cold beer. When I ordered white sausage, pretzel, and a drink, I paid around €20–30 per person. If I had to recommend just one item here, I recommend the white sausage with sweet mustard.

Pork Knuckle and Potato Side

The pork knuckle was rich and filling. On the best visit, the skin was crisp and the meat inside was tender. The sauce added depth, and the potato side made the dish feel like a full Bavarian meal. One visit had a slightly drier piece of pork, so the quality was not identical every time. Still, pork knuckle is one of the dishes I would order again. With pork knuckle, side dish, and beer, I paid around €30–40 per person.

Schnitzel and Potato Salad

The schnitzel was solid. The coating was crisp, the meat was easy to eat, and the potato salad paired well with it. It was not the most memorable dish at Wildmosers, though. Compared with the white sausage or pork knuckle, it felt more ordinary. For schnitzel, potato salad, and a drink, I paid around €20–30 per person. It is fine for a simple lunch, but for a first visit I recommend the Bavarian sausage or pork dishes instead.

Currywurst and Fries

The currywurst was a good beer snack and a satisfying casual meal. The sausage had a salty bite, and the curry sauce gave it enough flavor without becoming too heavy. The fries were inconsistent. On one visit, they were a little lukewarm, which made the dish less satisfying. Still, currywurst is a good choice when sitting outside with a beer. For currywurst, fries, and a drink, I paid around €20–30 per person.

Pasta and Pizza

The spicy pasta was better than expected. It had a mild heat and worked well when I wanted something different from heavy Bavarian food. The pizza was weaker. The dough was fine, but the cheese felt too heavy on one visit, and it did not leave the same impression as the German dishes. For pasta and a drink, I paid around €20–30 per person. When ordering pizza with drinks, the bill came to around €40 for two people.

Burger and Vegetarian Choices

The burger was average. On one visit, the ingredients slipped out of the bun, which made it difficult to eat. The taste was acceptable, but it did not match the quality of the sausage dishes. Vegetarian options were available, which helps when visiting with a mixed group. Still, Wildmosers is strongest with Bavarian meat dishes, beer, and dessert. For vegetarians, it works, but I would not visit mainly for the burger.

Apple Strudel and Coffee

The apple strudel was a strong dessert. The apple filling had good spice, and the warm vanilla sauce made it a very satisfying finish after a heavy meal. Coffee was less impressive. On one visit, a coffee cost more than €6, and the taste did not match the price. For dessert, I recommend the apple strudel. For coffee only, I would choose another place.

Price and Payment

Actual Meal Costs

Wildmosers is expensive for casual dining, but the location explains much of the price. For a simple lunch with a main dish and drink, I paid around €20–30 per person. For sausage, schnitzel, or pasta with drinks, I also paid around €20–30 per person. For pork knuckle, several drinks, and dessert, I paid around €30–40 per person. A larger dinner for two came to around €60–70. The Marienplatz location is clearly included in the final bill.

Card Payment and Tip Check

Card payment was available. Payment itself was easy, but I recommend checking the receipt carefully. At Wildmosers, I always look at the total and the Trinkgeld line before leaving. If you do not want to add a tip or want to choose a specific tip amount, say it clearly before paying and check the printed receipt afterward. With cash, I also recommend checking the total and change.

Wait Time and Seating

Wait Time

During several visits, I usually had no wait. At most, it was under 10 minutes. However, outdoor tables fill quickly when the weather is good. The area also gets busier around Glockenspiel times. For an outdoor table with a good view, I recommend arriving before the main lunch or dinner rush.

Indoor and Outdoor Seats

The outdoor seating is the main reason to visit. The view of Marienplatz and the New Town Hall makes the meal feel special. Indoor seating is quieter and more comfortable for conversation, especially by the window. The outdoor tables are close together, and the area can get noisy. If you want the view, choose the terrace. If you want a calmer meal, sit inside.

Staff and Service

Good Service

Service was friendly on many visits. Some staff members explained dishes well, recommended food and beer, and spoke English clearly. Food often came out quickly, even when the restaurant was busy. As a traveler, ordering was easy because the menu and service were accessible.

Weak Service

Service was not consistent every time. Once, I waited too long after asking for the bill. On another visit, the attitude during ordering and payment felt cold. The tipping process also made me check the receipt more carefully. Wildmosers can offer very good service, but the experience depends heavily on the staff member and how busy the restaurant is.

Restroom and Parking

Restroom

There is a restroom inside. The downside is the fee. On one visit, the restroom cost around €0.50. Charging paying guests for restroom use is a clear negative point. Carrying small coins is useful here.

Parking

Parking is difficult. This is the center of Munich, and I would not plan to drive directly here. Public transportation is the better choice. From Marienplatz station, the walk is very short.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The location is excellent. You can eat beside Marienplatz with a view of the New Town Hall and Glockenspiel. White sausage, pork knuckle, currywurst, beer, and apple strudel were the strongest items. English service was available, the food often came quickly, and the restaurant works well for a first Munich visit.

Cons

Prices are high, and not every dish matches the price. Coffee, pizza, and burgers were less convincing than the Bavarian dishes. The restroom fee is annoying. The bill and tip amount should be checked carefully. When the restaurant is busy, service can become slower or colder. Outdoor seating has a great view, but the tables are tight.

Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

Overall Satisfaction

My overall rating is 4 out of 5. Wildmosers is not perfect, but it is a very convenient place to eat Bavarian food at one of Munich’s most famous squares. My best meals here were built around white sausage, pork knuckle, beer, and apple strudel. It is best for visitors who want food and location together rather than a quiet local dining experience.

Revisit Intention

I would visit again. Next time, I would order white sausage, pork knuckle, currywurst, beer, and apple strudel. I would skip pizza, burger, and expensive coffee. For first-time visitors to Munich, I recommend getting a window or terrace seat around Glockenspiel time. I also recommend checking the receipt and tip amount before leaving.
