Review Summary

Based on several visits

La Taquería is a Mexican restaurant near Isartor in Munich and works best as a quick, casual food stop. I visited more than once and tried tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, enchiladas, burrito bowls, pozole, tamal and drinks. The experience was mixed. The tacos and quesadillas were the strongest dishes, especially the Cochinita Pibil tacos and Carnitas tacos. Some burrito bowls, tamales and pozole were weaker and lacked enough flavor.

Price and main recommendation

The price level fits central Munich, but not every dish fully justifies the cost. I paid about €8.70 for three tacos, around €10.50 for a burrito, and €10 for a 0.5L margarita. Two mega burritos and two Ayinger beers came to about €32. If I had to recommend only one dish, I recommend the Cochinita Pibil tacos. La Taquería is worth visiting, but the menu choice matters a lot.

Ordering and Waiting Time

Counter service

La Taquería uses counter service. I ordered at the counter, paid there and collected the food myself. It is not a full table-service restaurant. The buzzer system worked well on most visits. The only awkward part was when drinks were ready first but had to wait until the food was also ready.

Waiting time

The waiting time was usually short. On most visits, I waited no longer than 10 minutes. On a fast visit, the food came out in about three minutes. Near closing time, however, I waited around 30 minutes for tacos. The restaurant works much better during quieter hours.

Food Review by Dish

Tacos

The tacos are the best reason to visit La Taquería. The Cochinita Pibil tacos had rich pork flavor and good seasoning. The Carnitas tacos were juicy and satisfying. Pollo con Mole also worked well because the mole sauce added depth. The weak point was texture. When taken away, the tortillas softened quickly and the tacos lost their bite. I recommend eating tacos inside the restaurant.

Burrito and Mega Burrito

The burrito was filling, and the mega burrito was enough for a full meal. When the filling was balanced, it was a good order. At about €10.50, however, the burrito felt expensive on days when the portion was smaller or the filling was dry. The meat options were better than the vegetarian ones.

Burrito Bowl

The burrito bowl was inconsistent. The portion was large, but some bowls had too much lettuce and not enough rice or meat. The chorizo bowl did not have enough chorizo flavor. The vegetarian bowl felt plain without guacamole. It is fine when I just want something filling, but it is not my first recommendation here.

Quesadillas

The quesadillas were one of the better choices. A good quesadilla here was juicy, well-filled and nicely seasoned. Pollo con Mole worked especially well. One chicken quesadilla was disappointing because the chicken pieces were too rough and the onion flavor dominated. Still, quesadillas remain one of the dishes I would order again.

Nachos and Guacamole

The nachos were mostly good. The chips were crisp and worked well with guacamole. Nachos Especial and baked nachos were good for sharing. One weak point was the cheese, which was not always melted enough. The guacamole tasted fresh, but the portion size was not always satisfying.

Enchiladas

The enchiladas were a reliable choice. Chicken enchiladas came with rice and beans and made a comforting meal. Mole enchiladas had a deeper flavor and were more satisfying than many other dishes. The salsa verde version was weaker on one visit because the sauce did not taste fresh enough. I would order enchiladas again after tacos and quesadillas.

Pozole and Tamal

Pozole and tamal were the weakest dishes I tried. The pozole was too watery and lacked depth. The tamal was small, heavy and disappointing in both flavor and texture. I would not order these two again.

Drinks

The drinks were a strong point. The 0.5L margarita cost €10 and tasted strong. Michelada paired well with the tacos. Tamarindo, Jamaica and homemade lemonade were good options with the meal. Horchata was sweet and smooth, although I wanted it to taste a little fresher.

Prices and Payment

Food prices

A normal meal usually falls between €10 and €20 per person. Three tacos cost about €8.70, a quesadilla plate cost about €9, and a taco-plus-quesadilla order came to around €10.50. Two mega burritos with two beers came to about €32. These prices are not unusual for central Munich, but some dishes need better consistency to feel worth it.

Payment method

Card payment was the main method during my visits. The card terminal showed a tip prompt before I had even received the food. Since this is a self-service place, that felt uncomfortable. The tip prompt was one of the clear downsides of the visit.

Service and Atmosphere

Staff

The staff experience changed from visit to visit. On good days, the staff were friendly, quick and comfortable in German, English and Spanish. I even got to try a drink I did not know. On weaker days, the service felt cold and inattentive. Missing sauces, wrong orders and unclear portion sizes should have been handled better.

Atmosphere

The restaurant is small, colorful and casual. The wall art, Mexican details and music give it a lively taqueria feel. The front seats are tight because people line up near the ordering area. The high stools are not comfortable for a long meal. It is better for a quick dinner than for a long sit-down evening.

Parking and Restroom

Parking

There is no dedicated parking. Parking nearby is difficult, and available spots are mostly paid street parking. Coming by S-Bahn to Isartor is the better option. I would not recommend driving here just for this restaurant.

Restroom

There is a restroom. The condition was not always good enough. During busy times, it needs more frequent checks from the staff. It was not the main issue of the meal, but it was a noticeable downside.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The location near Isartor is excellent. Food often comes out quickly. Tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, nachos and margaritas can be very good. I also liked that the restaurant sells Mexican products such as tortillas, salsas and sweets. For a quick Mexican meal in central Munich, it has real value.

Cons

The biggest problem is inconsistency. Some dishes were excellent, while others were bland, dry or too expensive for the portion. Take-away tacos do not hold up well. The seating is tight, the stools are uncomfortable, and service can be uneven. The tip prompt at the card terminal is also a negative point.

Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

Overall satisfaction

My overall rating is 3.8 out of 5. The best tacos and quesadillas make La Taquería worth a visit. Still, the overall experience was not equally good every time. Price, service issues and several weak dishes keep it from being a higher-rated place for me.

Would I go again?

I would go again, but only for specific dishes. I recommend Cochinita Pibil tacos, Carnitas tacos, nachos and a margarita. For a first visit, I recommend eating inside the restaurant rather than ordering take-away.

Location Description

From Isartor

La Taquería is very close to Isartor S-Bahn station. From the station, walk toward Isartorplatz and use POMMES FREUNDE München Isartor as a nearby landmark. The restaurant sits in a small food area close to Asia Bites Isartor, Chat Junction and Em My Asian Kitchen. It is easy to find on foot.

From Deutsches Museum

From Deutsches Museum, cross Ludwigsbrücke toward Isartor. After the bridge, walk away from the Isar and into the small restaurant area near the station. Walking or taking the S-Bahn is much easier than coming by car.
