Review Summary

Overall Impression After Several Visits

Keko is a Turkish restaurant near Mariahilfplatz in Munich Au-Haidhausen, and it left a strong impression after several visits. The biggest strengths were the grilled lamb dishes, meze, desserts, and attentive service. The restaurant was often busy, and that popularity came with a few downsides: even with a reservation, waiting can happen, and brunch can feel crowded and tight.

Food-Focused Verdict

The food was generally fresh, flavorful, and more refined than a casual kebab-style restaurant. The best items were the lamb chops, lamb fillet, Beyti, veal liver, meze, and Oreo Baklava. Still, not everything was equally strong. The Adana kebab was less spicy and less distinctive than expected on one visit, and a few side dishes were dry or underseasoned. If I had to recommend just one dish, I recommend the lamb chops.

Visit Experience and Waiting Time

Reservation Experience

A reservation is strongly recommended. On several dinner visits, the restaurant was almost full or completely packed. Sometimes we were seated right away, but on one visit we waited around 20 minutes despite having a reservation. That was the clearest issue with the dining experience.

Speed of Service

When the restaurant was not overloaded, drinks and food arrived quickly. During busy periods, ordering, drinks, and payment took longer. At brunch, the buffet was refilled quickly, but the space became tight when many guests went to the buffet at the same time. For a calmer meal, dinner with a reservation is the better choice.

Cost and Payment

Price Level

For dinner, the usual price range felt like 30 to 50 euros per person. A simple meal can stay closer to 20 to 30 euros, but starters, mains, desserts, and drinks quickly push the bill higher. Brunch usually sits around the 20 to 40 euro range. The selection is generous, but some items such as Menemen, egg dishes, or certain drinks may cost extra.

Payment Experience

Card payment was available. Regular payment was easy enough, but split payment at the table was not handled smoothly on one visit. If visiting as a group and paying separately, it is better to mention it early.

Parking and Accessibility

Parking

There are parking options near the restaurant, including an area across from it. Still, parking is not always easy. At peak times, weekends, or during nearby events, finding a spot can take time. Parking ticket validation was possible during some visits, but it is best to confirm this at the restaurant.

Getting There Without a Car

Keko is also convenient without a car. Its location near Mariahilfplatz, the Isar, and the Deutsches Museum makes it easy to combine with a walk before or after the meal. It is slightly away from the busiest tourist center, but the small detour is worth it.

Food Review

Meze and Starters

The meze are one of the best reasons to visit Keko. The cold starters were fresh, varied, and ideal for sharing. The warm starters were also satisfying, especially the cheese-based items and pastries. The börek was flavorful without being greasy. On some visits, a few starters were less impressive or more heavily seasoned, but overall the starter selection was a major strength.

Veal Liver

The veal liver was one of the standout starters. It had a clean flavor, a nicely seared outside, and a tender bite. Anyone who enjoys liver should order it. It works especially well before a grilled meat main.

Lamb Chops and Lamb Dishes

The lamb chops were the best dish I had at Keko. The meat was juicy, tender, and grilled well. The seasoning was present but not overpowering. The lamb fillet and lamb dishes with eggplant and tomato sauce were also very good. The tomato sauce added brightness and depth without hiding the meat.

Beyti and Adana Kebab

Beyti was a strong choice. The meat, sauce, and yogurt worked well together and created a rich, balanced plate. The Adana kebab was less convincing. On one visit, it lacked the expected heat and deep seasoning, tasting closer to köfte than a bold Adana. Anyone expecting a very spicy, traditional Adana may be disappointed.

Fish Dishes

The fish dishes were better than expected. The mixed fish plate was fresh and cooked well. Grilled fish also fit the menu nicely. For anyone who does not want meat, the fish options are worth considering.

Rice, Vegetables, and Sides

The side dishes varied by visit. On good days, the rice was flavorful and worked well with the meat. On another visit, it was too dry and firm. The vegetables were acceptable but sometimes too mild. The mains were stronger than the sides.

Brunch Buffet

The brunch buffet offered many cold dishes, spreads, cheeses, olives, and sweet items. The variety was good, and the buffet was refilled quickly. However, anyone expecting a very traditional Turkish breakfast should know that it feels more like a Mediterranean brunch buffet. Menemen and certain extras may cost more, which affects the value.

Desserts

The desserts were very satisfying. Oreo Baklava was sweet, rich, and memorable. Künefe was warm and enjoyable, although it could use a stronger cheese element. If there is still room after the main course, ordering dessert is a good decision.

If Choosing Only One Dish

Lamb Chops as the Best Pick

If I could choose only one dish at Keko, I recommend the lamb chops. They show the restaurant at its best: good meat, proper grilling, balanced seasoning, and a satisfying plate. For first-time visitors, this is the safest and strongest order.

Staff Friendliness and Service

Friendly and Attentive Service

The staff were usually very friendly, attentive, and professional. Menu recommendations were helpful, drinks often arrived quickly, and special occasions were handled with care. The service added a lot to the overall dining experience.

Service Downsides

The service was not perfect every time. There was waiting despite reservation, and split payment felt uncomfortable on one visit. The brunch time limit can also feel restrictive if you want to sit longer. Still, service remains one of Keko’s strengths overall.

Restroom and Cleanliness

Clean Facilities

The restroom was clean. The dining room also felt well maintained. The interior is warm and suitable for dinner, a date, a family meal, or a small celebration.

Seating Space

The seating can be tight. Indoors, the tables are quite close together, especially during brunch. Outdoor seating is more comfortable in good weather, although some terrace chairs can feel hard during a longer stay.

Pros

Strong Food and Service

The biggest strength of Keko is the combination of well-made Turkish food and friendly service. Meze, lamb dishes, veal liver, Beyti, and desserts make the visit worthwhile. It works especially well when several dishes are ordered and shared.

Pleasant Atmosphere

The atmosphere is cozy, polished, and fitting for the concept. Keko works well for dinner with friends, birthdays, and special occasions. It is not cheap, but with the right dishes, the price feels reasonable for Munich.

Cons

Busy, Tight, and Not Always Cheap

Keko is often crowded. That can mean waiting, tight seating, and a busy brunch environment. The restaurant is also in the mid-to-higher price range. Anyone looking for a quick, cheap meal may prefer another option.

Uneven Menu Performance

Some dishes were excellent, while others were less impressive. Adana kebab, some sides, and a few brunch extras did not always match the strongest items. Choosing the right dishes matters at Keko.

Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

Overall Satisfaction

Overall, I was very satisfied with Keko. The best dishes are clearly above average, and the service makes many visits enjoyable. It is a strong choice for Turkish food in Munich, especially for anyone who likes meze and lamb.

Revisit Intention

I would visit Keko again. Next time, I would book dinner in advance and order meze, lamb chops, and Oreo Baklava. I would return for brunch only when I am prepared for a full dining room and tighter seating.
