Review Summary

Overall Impression After Several Visits

Klinglwirt is a strong restaurant in Munich Au-Haidhausen for Bavarian food made with better-than-average ingredients. Across several visits, I tried Munich schnitzel, roast pork, beer goulash, spinach dumplings, cheese spätzle, apple strudel, beer, lemonade, and non-alcoholic drinks. The best dishes were flavorful and satisfying, and the vegetarian and vegan options were much stronger than in many traditional Bavarian restaurants. The main drawback is the price. Schnitzel Wiener Art was around €27.90, original Wiener schnitzel was around €41–42, cheese spätzle was around €21.90, and apple strudel was around €9.80. With a main dish, drink, and dessert, the bill can easily reach €50 or more per person. During busy hours, food could take a long time, and the dining room could get loud. If I had to recommend only one dish, I recommend the Munich schnitzel.

Detailed Food Review

Munich Schnitzel with Price

The Munich schnitzel was the best dish for me. Schnitzel Wiener Art cost around €27.90, while the original Wiener schnitzel was around €41–42. The breading was crisp, the meat stayed tender, and the fried potatoes with onions and herbs worked very well as a side. The price is high, but the dish delivered strong flavor and solid quality. For one main dish at Klinglwirt, this is my first recommendation.

Roast Pork with Price

The roast pork cost about €23.90–36.90 depending on portion size. The meat quality was good, and the dumplings and sauce made it a filling Bavarian meal. The sauce was not overly salty or artificial. However, the dish was not equally strong every time. On one visit, the pork was a little dry, and the missing crispy crust was disappointing. I would still order it again, but I would not rank it above the schnitzel.

Beer Goulash with Price

With one beer, the beer goulash usually cost about €30–40 per person. The sauce had depth, the beef was tender, and the dumpling paired well with the sauce. This dish worked especially well with a cold beer. On some visits, the meat quantity felt limited for the price. I recommend it to anyone who wants a rich, dark, warming Bavarian dish.

Spinach Dumplings with Mushroom Sauce and Price

The spinach dumplings with mushroom sauce usually cost about €20–30 per person with a drink. They tasted like a proper main dish rather than a side. The dumplings were soft, and the mushroom sauce gave the dish warmth and depth. On a weaker visit, the seasoning and mushroom flavor could have been stronger. Still, this is the vegetarian dish I recommend most at Klinglwirt.

Cheese Spätzle and Spinach Spätzle with Price

The cheese spätzle cost around €21.90. That is expensive for a vegetarian dish, but it was rich, creamy, and very filling. A smaller portion was often enough. When the cheese flavor was very strong, the spinach flavor became less noticeable. For a lighter vegetarian order, I recommend spinach dumplings. For a heavy comfort dish, cheese spätzle is the better choice.

Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes with Price

Most vegan and vegetarian meals cost about €20–30 per person with a drink. Klinglwirt stands out because the meat-free options are not treated as an afterthought. Vegan sausages, spinach dumplings, mushroom dishes, and seasonal vegetarian plates make the restaurant useful for mixed groups. Meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans can all order comfortably here.

Apple Strudel with Price

The apple strudel cost around €9.80. It was a classic finish after a heavy Bavarian main course, with warm apple sweetness and sauce. On one visit, it was too sweet, and the vanilla sauce was not fully satisfying. After a large main dish, I recommend sharing the apple strudel rather than ordering one per person.

Chocolate Dessert and Seasonal Mousse with Price

Chocolate cake and seasonal mousse dishes noticeably increased the bill. With a main dish and dessert, the total often moved toward €30–50 or more per person. The chocolate dessert was a better choice when I wanted a richer ending after schnitzel or goulash. Seasonal mousse can change depending on the visit, but it worked well as a sweet finish after a salty main dish.

Beer, Lemonade, and Non-Alcoholic Drinks with Price

With two beers, schnitzel, and apple strudel, the total bill could reach around €50–60 per person. Beer matched the schnitzel, roast pork, and goulash very well. Homemade lemonade and non-alcoholic aperitifs were also good with the food. I recommend confirming the drink name carefully when ordering, because the wrong drink can affect the meal.

Waiting Time and Reservation

Reservation

A reservation is a good idea, especially for dinner and weekends. With a reservation, seating was much easier. When the group size changed slightly, the staff handled it well. Without a reservation, it may still work, but I would not rely on it during peak hours.

Food Waiting Time

Waiting time varied a lot. On quieter visits, food arrived quickly. On busy evenings, I waited 45 minutes to almost an hour. That is too long when no one checks on the table. I would not arrive extremely hungry during peak hours.

Cost and Payment

Price Level

A realistic cost is around €30–50 per person. With schnitzel, beer, and dessert, the bill can reach €50–60 or more. Key examples are around €27.90 for Schnitzel Wiener Art, around €41–42 for original Wiener schnitzel, around €21.90 for cheese spätzle, around €23.90–36.90 for roast pork, and around €9.80 for apple strudel. Klinglwirt is not a cheap Wirtshaus; it is a place to choose when food quality matters more than a low bill.

Payment and Tip

Card payment was possible. Tip guidance came up during payment. When service is attentive, that is fine. When food takes too long or the table is not checked, it feels less appropriate. I recommend checking the bill before paying, especially when portion sizes, drinks, and desserts are included.

Staff and Atmosphere

Friendly Service

On good visits, the staff was friendly, quick, and helpful. Ordering in English was manageable. Reservation changes were handled well, and families were treated comfortably. Children’s options and a play area were clear advantages.

Service Weaknesses

Service was not consistent. When the restaurant was full, the staff felt stretched. Follow-ups, additional orders, and the bill sometimes took too long. At this price level, the service needs to be more reliable.

Atmosphere and Noise

The dining room has a rustic Bavarian character. It feels warm and local, but it gets loud when full. Conversation is still possible, but not always relaxing. On hot days, the room felt stuffy. For a quieter meal, I would visit earlier.

Parking and Restroom

Parking

Parking is difficult. I would not expect a dedicated restaurant parking area. Paid street parking or nearby paid parking is more realistic. Public transportation is the easier choice.

Restroom

A restroom is available. It was usable, but the facilities could be improved. Considering the price level, the restroom and some interior details should be maintained more carefully.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The strongest pros are food quality, Bavarian classics, and strong vegetarian and vegan options. The Munich schnitzel, beer goulash, and spinach dumplings are the best reasons to visit. The atmosphere also works well for dinner with friends or family.

Cons

The main cons are high prices, long waits during busy hours, and uneven service. Some dishes were less consistent than others. Roast pork could be dry, sauces could be thin, and some desserts were too sweet. Noise can also reduce comfort when the restaurant is full.

Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

Overall Satisfaction

My overall satisfaction is good. Klinglwirt is not flawless, but its best dishes are strong enough to justify another visit. The mix of Bavarian food, organic ingredients, and vegetarian-friendly options makes it a useful restaurant in Munich.

Would I Revisit?

I would revisit, but I would reserve a table and avoid the busiest hours. If someone eats only one dish, I recommend the Munich schnitzel. For a vegetarian choice, I recommend the spinach dumplings with mushroom sauce. Current prices, menu items, waiting times, and service can vary depending on the visit.
