Review Summary

Overall impression after several visits

Hechtsprung is a Greek restaurant in Munich-Neuhausen-Nymphenburg that works especially well before or after a visit to Dantebad. After several visits, the strongest points were the view over the swimming pool, the generally fast service, the friendly staff, and the fish and seafood dishes. Still, not every visit was perfect. On weaker days, the meat lacked seasoning, the fries were barely salted, and the salad was flat. Separately charged bread, unexplained side dish changes, dirty glasses, and one uncomfortable payment experience were clear drawbacks. Most meals cost me €20–30 per person, while fish and seafood-focused meals reached €30–40 per person. If I had to recommend just one dish, I would recommend the fish platter or the grilled baby calamari.

Prices and Ordering Experience

Typical cost

Most of my meals at Hechtsprung came to €20–30 per person. With Gyros, Bifteki, fish dishes, and a drink, this price range made sense. On a lighter visit with Gyros and water, I paid €10–20 per person. When I ordered fish platters, seafood, and extra sides, the bill moved closer to €30–40 per person. It is not the cheapest Greek restaurant in Munich, but the combination of food, Dantebad location, and pool view makes the price understandable.

Payment experience

I paid at the restaurant during my visits. Most payments went smoothly. One visit, however, left a negative impression because change was not given back properly before I had even said that I wanted to leave a tip. That is a clear service problem. A pleasant meal can lose points quickly when the final payment moment feels careless.

Detailed Food Review

Fish platter

The fish platter was one of the best dishes I had at Hechtsprung. The fish was well cooked on the outside and still tender inside. The vegetables and potatoes were not overcooked, and the lemon-based sauce worked well with the plate. Fish-focused meals usually cost me €20–30 per person, and larger seafood meals came to €30–40 per person. If you order only one dish, I recommend the fish platter.

Grilled baby calamari

The grilled baby calamari is one of the restaurant’s strongest choices. The texture was not tough, the grilled flavor was clear, and it paired well with salad or vegetables. After swimming or sauna, this dish fits especially well because it feels satisfying without being too heavy. With a drink, I paid around €20–30 per person.

Gyros

The Gyros was inconsistent. On good visits, it was warm, filling, and worked well as a simple Greek meal. On weaker visits, the meat was dry, fatty, and not seasoned enough. A Gyros and water meal cost me €10–20 per person, while Gyros with additional sides or drinks moved closer to €20–30 per person. I would not visit Hechtsprung for Gyros alone with very high expectations.

Bifteki

Bifteki was a solid choice when I wanted a filling meat dish. The portion was enough, and with vegetables or potatoes it made a complete dinner. The seasoning was mild rather than bold. I paid around €20–30 per person for a Bifteki meal with a drink. Anyone looking for a stronger meat flavor may prefer another dish.

Meze and cold appetizer platter

The Meze platter and cold appetizer platter were generous and easy to share. They worked especially well for two people. On good visits, the plate was enjoyable and varied. On weaker visits, some items lacked a homemade quality and tasted too plain. Bread being charged separately was also disappointing. A lighter appetizer-based meal cost me €10–20 per person, while adding a main dish brought the bill to €20–30 per person.

Salad and vegetables

The salad and vegetables changed in quality from visit to visit. On good days, they added freshness to fish and meat dishes. On weaker days, the salad needed more dressing, acidity, and seasoning. I would treat the salad as a side rather than the main reason to come here. A light salad and drink meal cost me around €10–20 per person.

Fries and sides

The fries were one of the weakest parts of my meals. One time, they were barely salted. Another time, sweet potato fries were listed with the dish, but regular fries were served instead. That change was not explained when the plate arrived. Sides may look minor, but they affect the entire dish.

Pasta and pita bread

The pasta and pita bread were better than expected. The Spaghetti Aglio e Olio had clear seasoning, and the garlic pita bread worked well with fish and appetizers. When I ordered fish platter, rice, pita bread, and pasta together, the bill reached around €40–50 per person. This type of order makes more sense when sharing several plates.

Dessert and drinks

On some visits, a small dessert or Ouzo was served at the end. That made the meal finish on a nicer note. Beer and water paired well with the food. In an earlier visit, a 0.5L Spezi and a 0.5L dark wheat beer were charged at €3.50 each; current prices should be checked at the restaurant. On-site prices, opening hours, and menu items may change.

Waiting Time and Atmosphere

Waiting time

When dining in, I usually did not wait for a table. Food also arrived quickly after ordering, especially during quieter hours or early evening visits. The delivery experience was different. One order took around 2.5 hours, and I could not reach the restaurant by phone. For me, Hechtsprung works much better as a dine-in restaurant than as a delivery option.

Seating and interior

The atmosphere is unusual because several seats overlook Dantebad. In the evening, the view of the lit pool is especially enjoyable. The large boat-style table inside also gives the restaurant its own character. Normal tables are limited, so reserving ahead is a good idea if you want a more comfortable seat.

Staff and Service

Positive service

On many visits, the staff were friendly, quick, and attentive. Orders were taken without delay, requests were handled well, and the overall service matched a relaxed restaurant after swimming or sauna. The service generally feels casual and family-like.

Service issues

There were also weaker moments. Having to change tables despite an almost empty restaurant, the change issue during payment, unexplained side dish changes, and dirty glasses were clear negatives. The food gives enough reasons to return, but the service needs more consistency.

Parking and Accessibility

Parking

Parking is not always easy. There are parking options around Dantebad, but available spaces depend heavily on the time of day. I used paid parking and street parking on different visits. If you come by car, arriving a little earlier is better.

Accessibility

Accessibility is a weakness. The restaurant is reached by stairs, so it is not well suited for wheelchair users. This should be checked before visiting.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The biggest advantages are the Dantebad view, the fish dishes, the grilled baby calamari, the usually quick service, and the relaxed location after sports or sauna. The typical €20–30 per person price range is also reasonable for Munich.

Cons

The main drawbacks are inconsistent quality and some service mistakes. Gyros was not always convincing, fries and salad were too bland on weaker visits, bread was charged separately, and delivery was once much too slow. Hechtsprung is not flawless, but it has clear strengths.

Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

Final opinion

My overall satisfaction is good, but not unconditional. Fish, seafood, and appetizers can be very enjoyable, the view over Dantebad makes the visit memorable, and the staff are usually friendly. At the same time, the weaker visits cannot be ignored. For me, Hechtsprung is best as a Greek restaurant to visit after Dantebad.

Recommendation

I would return and order the fish platter, grilled baby calamari, or Meze platter again. If you choose only one dish, I recommend the fish platter. If you come mainly for Gyros, do not expect the strongest dish in the restaurant. Current prices, opening hours, and menu items may differ on-site.

Location Guide

Finding it from Dantebad

Hechtsprung is located right by the Dantebad area and is easiest to find from there. From Westfriedhof station, walk toward Baldurstraße and continue in the direction of Dantebad. SAP Garden, Olympiapark, and Westfriedhof are also useful nearby landmarks. If arriving by car, check parking around Dantebad first and consider nearby paid parking if the closest spaces are full.
